NJ Pajero 2.8 Diesel?

Post by amshaw »

G'Day all,
Looking at getting out of the wife's io and into its bigger brother.

I found a 94 NJ from a stealer about 80km away, thay want $11,000

Its got 244k on the clock.......looks very very neat though.

Just wondering what kind of life span should you get from the 2.8D?, not sure if its a D or TDi ??, have vin # if it helps......

How about head gaskets ? last about 150-200k?

My wife does a heap of km each year and needs it to be 100% reliable etc....

Yes Ive had a look at this site and found probs reg 5th gear, craking manifolds, timing gear cover leaks etc.....any more info please?

Hello mate,
I can't comment on the reliability of the engines for large milages as mine's only done approx. 180,000 km. But the price does seem high to me. My 2.8tdi 1996 Paj cost me $6,700 with 160,000km on the clock. And it was in excellent condition too. So $11,000 bucks with 244 on the clock doesn't seem great value to me. As for a drive im much more impressed than i ever expected to be with a series 2 paj and so if you've got your heart on one, then i'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I have a 1995 NJ with 295000klm on it. I have owned it for just over two years and it had 250000klms on it when I bought it. I have had no problems with it at all just Suspension repairs (lower ball joints pitman arm under control arm bushes and rear control arm bushes which one would expect for a car of this age. I do the harder trips with the clubs I belong to, so I treat the Pajero fairly ruffly. Up until 6 months ago the pajero was also my daily driver as well (now have company car :-) ). I do oil changes every 5000klms and change all fliuds every 24 months. I haven't had any glow plug issues but I have read about glow plug wiring/ relay being a problem. Cookie you may need to check your glow plug wires (bus rail) for corrosion.
