TD42 worth evry cent
TD42 worth evry cent
yes yes i have gone through all the search items just want some recent figures:
i have a naturally aspirated TD42, 93SWB, 5sp on 33inch tyres, 3inch lift, 224,000kms recent injector pump rebuild, tuned, runs very well always serviced air, fuel filter everything done.
im getting around 600km to 95l tank and thats running it on fuel light for a bit.
What should i be expecting? or this about right?
Speedo ajustment done in calculation/all city work, i drive it easy gears change between 1500-2500rpms.
is it bad for the motor to run the diesel low? how many kilometres shoul i expect when diesel light comes on?
ANY HELP???????????

Thanks guys, you make me feel much better about getting 550Kms around town without getting to fuel light, from an AUTO, with turbo, on standard tyres, and the stupid high roof version which must add to wind resistance a little, and this stupid lead insert in my foot that just can't seem to be removed, that causes very uneconomical driving as it causes the foot to push much harder on the accelerator than it ought to.
Injectors were redone just over a thousand Kms ago, and haven't had the chance to even give her a full highway run in that time, with little more than lots of short trips which aren't ideal for any engine.
Itching for some time off to let her stretch her legs a bit and see what the redone injectors has done for her.

I get out of a 92 TD42 non turbo around 600-650K's from around 80-90L of Diesel, more on the freeway (about 800K's)
I don't stress the engine, i rev it to 2300 for each gear change and when doing 60K's around town i am in 5th doing 1200RPM. i don't go past 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, as opening it to full just wastes diesel.
Its not the power house my petrol 4.2 used to be but i prefer its off road low range alot better than the petrol

AA's for Quitters
Running low on fuel.
If you have ever pulled the sender out of a Patrol tank. You will see that other than running out of fuel there is no issue with running low. The pick up for the tank is a couple of mm off the bottom. So what ever crud in there be it water or partical type gunk. It will be go through the whole system if its tiny or get caught by the filter.
