Wife said car made funny noise today when starting so I checked it out when I got home and found the Alternator not charging.
Pulled it out and to bits and found the diode pack blown up.
I rebuilt the Alternator a couple of years ago, bearings, seals, diode pack and regulator all replaced.
Now it appears to have died again, anyone got any suggestions of causes?
Anyone no of availability of aftermarket replacements?
Price of new and/or reco and where to get one, other then local auto elecy?
Any info greatly appreciated.

GQ Patrol 4.2 Diesel Alternator
This thread had them from mid $300 up to almost $1000.
Alas, I read the thread too late after paying $660 for a new one running at the original 55amps or whatever, when I really needed a bit more oomph than that now.

I typed patrol and alternator, then ticked search for all terms.
It's that last bit that seems to make the difference, otherwise search isn't real helpful most of the time.
It helped that I already knew that thread existed too, so knew what to look for.

Not sure where you are located.
I bought one last year for around $330 (trade price / cash) from Ashdowns in Melbourne. They have locations all over the country. Open Saturday morning too (in melbourne at least...!)

There's a few contact details of a few places in Melbourne at the bottom of the 2nd page of the link that Ezookel listed.
