what type of turbo on RD28T?

Post by slosh »

Does anyone know what type of turbo the RD28T runs... Garrett etc?

Just wondering if it would be good to put on 2.8 diesel Hilux engine.

Thanks.

Hi Slosh

Just check the dump pipe flange plate pattern.

I have the 2.8 GU and recently put on a 2 3/4 exhaust and searched for dump pipes but the Nissan Patrol is only a 4 bolt pattern not a 5 bolt like a lot of Garrett Turbos. I think the exhaust side is custom made by Nissan. You can buy a 2 3/4 dump pipe for a bit over $200 from Beauexhausts in QLD to suit the Patrol turbo.

If you were starting from scratch, buy a Garrett Turbo with the 5 bolt as matching dump pipes in 2 3/4 or 3 inch are easy to find. Especially if they have the same pattern as the Silvia.

I had a 2.8 Hilux a little while back with an air research turbo and 3 inch exhaust and it went great. Bought the whole system second hand off the trading post for $460.

Cheers

just purchased a new one.

one thing you want to look out for is the turbo exhaust flange that bolts to the exhaust manifold is only a 3 bolt triangle shape, try find something that matches its unusual size.. and as mentioned its output into the dump pie is only 4 bolt.

the water inlet and return are either side of the oil return in the one conecting pipe underneith the turbo.

they are a t25 or a actual number is a garret gt17.

$1590 brand new from dynamic turbochargers/ mtq in bris.

honestly bud you would be better off getting a normal turbo (as in delivery and return pipes) and normal 4 and 5 bolt flanges. also for that sort of money you can get a ball bearing t 28.
