More Power for the Vitara
More Power for the Vitara
Hey,
i have a LWB vitara with the g16b motor (1.6 16v) and after fitting all the accesories needed for touring (dual ARB lockers, 2' lift, Dual Battery and ARB bullbar) the tara needs a little more power. I don't wanna compromise the reliablity of the motor so something minor would be preferable.
My question is, are the computer chips for the EFI models any good, if so which one is best ?
And does changing from the belt operated fan to the electric one have any power benifits ?

Better exhaust and better intake two cheapish mods that should help release a few more of those ponies hiding under your bonnet.
2 to 2.25 all the way back with some quality extractors.. perhaps a new CAM and a last some dyno time ...

I"m trying to stay away from turbo's as i'm going for longevity and a turbo will create a whole basket of problems, for one, excess heat.
does anyone know if the electric fans reduce the drain on the engine when compared to the belt operated one? And is it possible to have the air con fan function along with the belt driven one ?

I have a 1.3 sierra and found fitting a thermo fan made quite a difference in power - I reckon it made more of a difference than extractors did.bugden23 wrote: does anyone know if the electric fans reduce the drain on the engine when compared to the belt operated one?
The thing is your alternator works harder then as you cant create energy from nothing, you can just make things more effieient.
As an added bonus I can turn ON the thermo in the slow stuff, turn it OFF for water and any mud I have to cross, and the rest of the time it is controlled by a thermal switch and turns on when it needs to.
I taped the thermal switch into the thermostat housing under the thermostat not above. The switch is rated for 82*C, the same as a std zook thermostat so normally the fan is only running when the thermostat is open and water is flowing through the radiator.
Many people dont like thermo fans as they are somthing extra to stuff up.
Get a good one that is electrically efficient and uses a brushless motor eg EL falcon and it will last OK.
Sorry for the long post.
