i just flushed out my radiator the other night and got told that when you do this you can get air in the radiator just need ome tips on how to bleed it so there is no air in there so i dont boil the water

Just fill it up while engine is at idle then wait with cap off till thermostat opens you know when this happens because one Rad hose will be getting hot and the other will be cold when both are at the same temp it's open this is when it may need a little more coolant/water as all air will be let out then doesn't hurt to do this with heater on aswell as it will pump it around them pipes aswell then put the cap on and either let it cool down and re-check the recovery bottle as it will probably suck a bit in when it cools and then your done

usually the only cars to really worry about bleeding the air out are ones with the radiator mounted lower than the engine such as the v6 commodore's but they come with s bleed nipple to sort that out.

Check out surf site for more info on this. You don't want to cook the head and end up being another cracked head thread on that site.

I think some of the surf motors, maybe 2L turbos, have the radiator cap on the thermostat housing which sits lower than the top of the radiator. Need to be careful as air pockets can form in places that are higher than the cap.

I noticed on my hilux diesel that the heater hose sits about the same level or a bit higher than the radiator cap. I had a radiator guy do a flush and refill on mine and all he did to bleed was run engine up to operating temp with the cap off and heater on hot. I kept having to top up the coolant overflow bottle a bit for a few weeks afterwards. Bit strange, don't know whether there was a small leak or an air bubble that worked itself out but no leaks since.

One method I have heard is to cut the end off a 2 lt coke bottle, tape it to the rad filler and and keep topping up the coke bottle so the point you are adding fluid to is at the highest. Sounds good in theory but would be hard to seal up the bottle to the filler.

That method works fine and most filler necks it fits like a glove just the only drama is you can't get air to flow down hence why commy's have the air bleed at the highest point you could do that with the heater hose buy undoing clamp and just pulling it off enough to let the air out once water flows out push it back toghther and all sohould be sweet
