What exhaust for F75 TDI

Post by tabrocky »

Hey guys,

Looking at putting a new exhaust on my F75 with DL52 turbo intercooled motor.
What do you recomend? What have people got?

Was think probably a 2.5" - 3" straight through with one or two hotdogs. The turbo should do most of the muffling so I don't expect it would need much.

I would like a nice deep note with a bit of turbo whistle, but not to loud when cruising on road.

Have extractors with 2.5" and straight thro muffler on my other N/A DL rocky, and while it sounds great when you hit the accelerator, it can become a bit taxing on long trips.

Any comments/ideas appreciated.

Cheers ;)

Hey hey... I did this exact thing a month ago. :D

I got 2.5" from the turbo flange back, with a 2.5" stainless (8250) flexible bellows to cure any vibration and a Lukey L1 7609 muffler where the stock one was located. (all press bent)

He took the flange off, cut off the old pipe and expanded the hole and welded 2.5" pipe stright on.

The motor revs out soo much easier now, and you can feel a fair bit more oomph.
Under load it makes a very nice deep note, and you can hear the turbo spool up quite nicely. :D

I also drove to Forster on the highway, and when cruising you cant even tell it has a big exhaust on it... I love it! The worst thing is a droney deisel when cruising along.

I've got one 2 1/2 inch hotdog on mine. Nice note and nice whistle.

Thanks for the quick replies fella's.

What type of muffler is that Lukey one HotFourOk? Hotdog or just a straight thru' convetional one?

Will diffinatley fit the bellows like you mentioned. Had to fit one to Rocky 1 a couple years back because I was re-welding the gearbox exhaust bracket every week just-about.

Hey Bundy, that hotdog doesn't make it drone when cruising does it?

I think probably the hotdog is the way to go.

I will pull the flange off the turbo and see what the maximum size pipe I can weld to it is. If 2.5" fits with a bit of machining like you said HotFourOk, then that will be sweet.

Cheers guys, ;)

2.5" Straight through conventional type muffler.

I couldn't be happier with the amount of drone (or lack thereof)

3" no muffler (sounds like a big rig only louder)

theres not enough room to increase the size of the dump pipe which is bout 2 1/2 inch so goin any bigger than that doesnt offer a whole lot more performance as i found out. does make it louder tho
