Where and what UHF antenna to buy

I am looking for a UHF antenna for my 4by, what sort do I buy, and where sells them at a good price in Vic?

I was suggested a 4.5db gain with spring base, for $95.

Is there better and a similar price?

my suggestion is to buy a good quality one at a reasonable price from a reputable company.







or just buy a gnd independant from supercrap thaat has the coil steel whip

The more dB gain, the higher the angle of radiation.

This means if you are in hilly terrain then go for a higher gain.
If mostly flat, less gain.

A good compromise is 4.5dB.

Unless you are going to mountin the middle of a large pannel like the roof, then go Ground plane indipendant. Bullbar mounts are shitty for anything else.

The 4.5db with sprig base is pretty good.

I'd be going the RFI 6.5db elevated feed for $80. That aerial has probably the most punch of any uhf antenna on the market.

i run a 6.5 db RFI on my work ute and a 6.5db fiberglass on my 4x4 and the RFI works heaps better using the same radio

Other way around, High gain it a flatter radiation pattern, good for flat terrain and low gain is better for hills

My Opinion, Polar Electronics make a brilliant aerial bout $120 4.5db Spring Base, Ground Independent, fiberglass whip, you can bend the whip right over on itself and it will not break, the GME AE4018K1 is the same as the polar, but the polar is (in my opinion) way better built, it has a longer ferrule in the bottom of the whip (which is where most fiberglass whips break) and a better quality spring and it the same price

I have the DB6 Ground Independant, very very happy with it so far.

I ended up going thru Telstat in Seaford, nice and local, very helpful, and got the GME AE4018K1 with all the cable, spring etc, and a stainless bull bar bracket, for $105.

You can use anything as an antenna, some things work better than others though Im guessing you mean for a car stereo? You can use a UHF antenna if you wanted, you can get AM/FM antennas that look the same as a UHF or CB antenna if thats is what you are after.
