Snatching of the front cross member (spring hanger)

Post by dawg runner »

Gday,

Just wanted some advice.

Can i snatch off the front cross member (spring hanger) as a last resort or will it damage the chassis?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks guys

I rekon as a LAST CASE scenario, failing all else,
then the crossmember looks like a good option.
Better that than being stuck in the middle of nowhere all night.

A well located drag chain, wrapped EVENLY around the front hanger/
crossmember (toward one of the EDGES of the crossmember - where it
meets either side of the chassis) should be more than ample for a MINOR recovery.

The STANDARD tow hooks on my hilux are located here,
And they are only held on by 2-bolts each. Surely spreading the load
accross the whole corner of the chassis would be stronger?
I wouldn't HANG the car from it, but a slight assistance pull will
not do any damage.

NOTE:- I have pulled a smashed HQ 1 tonner ute from a gully by its
rear shackle before and it worked fine. And that required 3000RPM
low range 1st to get it out!

Cheers,
Bart
