Crankshaft
Has anyone out there ever seen a crankshaft wear out overnight? Mine went in a day... no noises on friday, lots of noise saturday.
Does anyone know of an importer of the HD enigine in the Feroza II? It might be cheaper than replacing the crank, especially if there is other damage. I am in Sydney, but will travel or get it shipped.
Otherwise does anyone have a spare crankshaft for a HD? I would love to hear from you!!
Andrew.

I've destroyed 'bout 3 engines over the years, and have always found it was easier (cheaper) to replace the whole engine from a Jap Importer joint. There are usually plenty of places around, and I think that most of the Daihatsu engines (Charade - Feroza) are all the same - just change the brackets for the engine mounts if ya get an East-West engine.
Get another engine, and then you'll have lots of spare bits for next time something stuffs up

Croz you could try these guys: http://www.sssautomotive.com.au/welcome.htm
They don't list any HD-E engines on their website but would be worth a try.
There's a place here in Adelaide that would most likely have a crank or complete engine, but they are very expensive. I recently got a thermofan switch off an Applause engine from them- so they should have an Applause engine at the least. Let me know if you want their details.
Here's a good engine to look at too...... would require some rewiring though as the computer would need to be changed over....

Thanks Paul - sounds like there will be some good pics! Feel free to send some videos my way via Email if you can't post them.
Murray, did you get all new pistons etc? Any head work? Good to hear the pinging's cured. I'm waiting for the warm weather again to see how much mine detonates this year! The injectors have been cleaned and I've been running it on BP 98 to try and clean it all out.

Hi Andrew,
Have you recently changed from mineral oil to synthetic oil? The reason I ask is a guy at work did and stuffed his Honda's engine.
If the engine isn't flushed before the change the better cleaning properties of synthetic oil can cause sludge to break off and cloog up oilways.
Useing an oil flushing agent before the change will greatly lessen this risk.

Hey Croz,
Just a question 'bout your new motor. Does it come complete, ie with injectors and all the bolt on bits?

And in the next chapter, our hero battles the warranty claim department!!!
Hey Guys and Gals...
There is now a clean motor rumbling under the bonnet of my truck. The motor came with both manifolds, fan and injectors, dizzy, flywheel, throttle body and a few other bits and pieces. Its a Jap import, straight out of a Feroza, with no real differences in its makeup. It had been in an auto, so we changed it over with my flywheel. Apparently the setup for autos is a bit different, I was told it would be torquier... it really is. Although the motor came with the manifolds and stuff the warranty only covers the long motor, not the accessories.
I had never spun the rear wheels in a straight line on the road untill i got this motor... it really surprised me!! Heaps more bottom end than my old donk and there seems to be a bit more in the top. The engine is really quiet, no lifter noise, no smoke, no crank slapping around in the bottom end!
There is just one problem... the oil coming out the back of the head, from the gasket! Spoke to the dealer, who was very helpful, he said to get my mechanic to loosen and retension the head, paid for by the warranty. If this doesnt fix the problem, they will take the car and replace the head gasket, under warranty.
I have to say that the guys that supplied the motor were very helpful (Just japanese parts plus in sydney), and i would highly reccomend them.... just have to see how we go with the warranty claim.
Croz.

I think auto's may have a different camshaft as well as the flywheel or it could be out of an earlier model. The eaerlir model F300's seem to me anyway to be a far quicker and tougher engine. Mine is still strong and quite at 260000 klms.
Yesterday I replaced the standard fan with a $40.00 electric one from the wreckers because in traffic I was having to turn the heater on to keep the temp gauge in a someewhat correct position. I thought the thermatic fan clutch was gone however it turns out my radiater was clogged with mud.
Got the electric fan wired through a thermostat I used to use for the aircon fan. I now have the aircon fan turning on when ever I run the aircon. Advised from the aircon people to do this.
