Compare your wiper speed to another Sierra, you will probably find its just yours that is slow. Old motors that regularly have to scrape mud off the screen burn a few of the windings and slow down. I'd start by replacing the motor. If you want intermittent you can fit later model wiper motor and switch (may have to run 1 more wire). I don't know when they started with intermittent but my 89 has it.

check the pivot points coming through the windscreen surround, they can sieze up slowing down the wiper motion.

You can even try "servicing" the system by removing the wiper arms, pivots, linkages and motor. Clean them up, replace anything broken, lube and put it back together.

Usually a VERY cheap thing to do and often works a treat.

Had exactly the same thing on my GU a few weeks ago. $300+ wiper motor quote (just for the motor) as opposed to less than 2 hours of my time and maybe $3.75 worth of lube.

Drover has Int. wiper speed.. just confirming!! not that they do a whole lot... rekon its a bargain sprayin a dollars worth of the car wash wax onto the windscreen and letting the water bead off.. actually works better than the Int.
