105 series uses oil???

Post by zookwithdreams »

Currently looking at a 105 series auto petrol GXL through a friend and the owner (being up front) said that it uses about a litre of oil a month due to the weight of the vehicle does this sound right, do other peoples cruisers do this or is there something else wrong
Thanks

Ive heard the 4.5's use a bit of oil after they have a few k's up there shirt, but to me a litre in 4 weeks i think (correct me if im wrong) is a little on the "hmmm, whats wrong with it side". How many k's has it done?

My turbo diesel 60 series with 364 000k's on it would be lucky to use a litre between services.

My 2002 FZJ105R GXL auto has 125,000km on the clock and burns no oil.

A friend's 2002 FZJ105 GXL manual did use about 1L per 5000km until he changed the type of oil in it.
He put thicker oil in it, and it stopped using it. I'll see what weight he used.

Pre purchase

Post by MitchellBros4x4 »

Shouldn't consume that much oil. Pre purchase is the best idea. There can only be 2 reasons why it loses oil, it burns or it leaks. We can check for leaks easily, and we can compression test the engine wet and dry to determine the condition of piston rings and the integrity of the combustion chamber. We charge $132 for a pre-purchase inspection. Hope this helps.

i have a 98 100series 4.5 petrol with 180,000km on it. i 've had it for about 6-7 months and have changed the oil twice (every 5 thou) and each time it has used somewhere between 0.5 and 1 litre of oil. the car has a full log book service history since new. I have been using synforce cruiser oil in it but plan to give penrite a go and see if this changes the oil consumption. the motor runs like new, no smoke and no leaks. using 500ml of oil in a 4.5 litre motor over 5 thousand k's doesn't concern me though.
you should find out how many k's he does in a month, if it's only a 1000 there is a problem.
