Jimny Recovery Points
Jimny Recovery Points
A mate has just bought a new Jimny for the beach but we want to get some recovery points fitted. Anyone here have any ideas where to fit them without serious mods?

I am more familiar with the more modern zook 4x4's and I have one question...
How much does the Sierra chassis differ from the new Jimny chassis
This is in regards to length, the accessibility of bolt on points and overall strength.

From what i can tell they are not real popular in the mods area, but there is a few things that can be done.
The chassis is very similar to the coily sierra and the lift kits are basically the same as far as i know. Rockhopper transfer cases can go in but are not quite as simple as doing the swap on a leafer.
Rear lockers are available, but you'll have to check on the front. I'm sure there can be something donw for the front by chopping and changing bits from different models.
What do you want to do exactly???

Hi Jeeps,
If the jimny frame is similar to the Sierra frame it should have the shipping loops on it. The front one is attached to the front cross member and the rear is in one of the corners near the mudflaps.
We use these two points in the suzuki club i'm in as recovery points for snatching cars etc and they are definately strong enough to rip the cars out of the mud.
That would save you doing any mods at all.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Greg

I have intensions not to do any major modding to it. I am using it for some light bush work and mainly beach runs.
Some methods of creating a strong recovery point, both front and rear is all I am after at the moment.
Thanks for your help

I would be careful using these. I have seen quite a few bent front crossmembers at the front, and even ripped the tow loop and steering damper mount clean out of the crossmember on my lwb.
The tie down hoops are fine to use on a sierra..BUT definetly not good enough on a Jimny. Obviously you QLD zooks just dont play hard enough if you are still using the tie down hoops. I have seen them fly right off in a moderate snatch, thats why we have told all NSW members that the Jimny tie down loops are NOT suitable recovery points.
Sorry jimny jeep .. we by all means should go on what you see by looking at a point .. not what greg has seen with them being used as a recovery point ...( not trying to be rude but I will take experience over opinion any day )
Ive personally witnessed a few jimnys being recovered from fairly seriously stuck ( down to sills in heavy white and red clay) using stock recovery points without issue ... so long as the driver of the recovery vehicle is reasonable on the throttle and realises he/she is not trying to recover a bogged to the sills 2+ tonne patrol or landcrusher ... just a light weight suzuki in my experiance factory tow/tiedown points are fine ...

Sure, fair statement. You can't buy experience. I am just trying to get the best advice whilst trying to visualise my Jimny getting "Snatched" rather than "Towed".
On the beach, you are more likely to be snatched than towed right? I will mostly be beach driving.
Even though the Zuks are light, I wouldnt want the standard points to rip off while being snatched out. And snatching will have more stress put on the points for that split second. Would you agree?

I think Jimny's still have a frame right?
Then just have a look - go out buy some of those $20 hooks find a spot which you think will hold - drill some holes - bolt it on - take photos show everyone else so you will be able to say this topic has been beat to death - post the link and look like a hero 8) 8)

Bud, of all people you should know that 4x4's have frames.
It may be NEW, but just remember that even your Lux and 4Runner were new once too.
Thanks for the advice, I will probably end up just putting hooks where ever I like.
Have you had that tail shaft replaced yet?

Towbar will be fine. I'm the one who's gonna be pulling you out and if a TJ can't get bogged on the beach then i reckon a Jimny has a good chance of outshining them slow-luxes and lardcruisers too.
Remember when we were up the beach a couple of weeks ago? How many toyotas were bogged? Dozens. How many TJ's and Jimny's? None - and there were heaps of stock Jimny's up there too. The lighter and shorter 4wd's always win on the beach...especially when it comes to driving sideways... 8)

to all the try hard wannabes. it doesnt matter what u wheel one day u will get stuck then u will want someone to tow u out . when u talk about beach driving try and picture a stock zuk with a trailer made frome half a zuk loaded to the gills crossing dunes on top of fraser where the sand is like powder, or a hilux with a car trailer carrying a swb gq patrol from double island pt down the beach with out assistance, or atj bogged to the eyeballs towing his mate who was bogged [ current hilux] , neither of them didnt know how to engage 4wd. it doesnt matter what u own so long as u drive where u want to go and help your mates get there as well .
