The later model ones mount on the drivers side head like this. You can see the resivior under the top radiator hose. Im pretty sure it woule bolt up at all the alternator brackets interchange between early and vn style heads

For the sake of the this question asked 304 and 308 are exactly the same. The only thing seperating them is a stroke decrease to get the 304 cubes.

The heads on them all are double drilled for accessories at each end so the factory has to only cast the one head. They are interchangable. It is only difference in brackets for power steering pumps not difference in motors. Im running a early commodore pump on the passenger side in mine whilst my motor was originally out of a WB ute which has the kingswood pump on the drivers side.
As i said earlier in this case there is squat difference between them!

ok after checking it out, seems like i'll need it to bolt to the drivers side as the alternator has been bolted to the passenger side, so what brackets/pump would I need to track down?

You will need Kingswood pump brackets. Unfortunately they are made of unobtainium. Much better bet getting commodore brackets and moving the alt to the drivers side.
If you do manage to find some Kingy brackets that they dont want a million dollars for make sure you get the bolt spacers as well.

Mate score that while you can. There is normally 3 other spacers that go betwwen the bracket and the head but you can knock these up out of some round tube.
Get that bracket but for sure!
