what size shock are you looking at getting?
i had some long rancho's in the rear of mine (830-480) and replaced them with some hendrickson's (760-460) they bolted straight in heaps better shock imo.
cheers Pete.

my patrol has had ranchos for 5 years. i think they are fine, in fact they are better than my old konis cuz these actually get adjusted. adjusting a koni takes time.

also, i've seen more koni's with broken mounts than ranchos.

My 2c is to stay away from Ranchos and Toughdogs. I wont spend my money on either ever again.

Go on US ebay and have a look at how cheap Ranchos really are!!! Thats why they are so popular. I'm so glad that i bought mine from overseas and paid under half of what ppl are charging over here.
They are a Poo shock and just get marketed as an expensive "quality" shock over here. poo poo poo poo POO.

oh you could indeed say something is shit without buying one

liek a LADA, or a range rover electrical system
i doubt anyone would dissagree :D

alot of people donot realise that the shock has to be suited to the spring rate.

you may think that it does not matter in a 4wd, but i assure you it does.

This is why koni's are so good, you can set them up exactly how you want them.

Rancho's may work excellent with a certain springrate in a certain truck, but they will not work well in all trucks. Procomps and others are valved differently for compression and rebound.

a shit shock would be one that does not do the job that it was intended. ABSORB SHOCK, for a long time without fading or loosing performance.

actually shock absorbers do not absorb shock. they are not intended for that. The springs are meant for that. the shocks ( actually called dampers or dashpots) dampen the springs, so the car dosnt keep bouncing.

I got to say I have been their and done that with X9's on a ZD30 Auto with Auto Alliance recommended springs rolling 285/75/16 Cooper ST tires. Handled great, on road off road I loved it. Blew one shock, which was replaced under warrantee. They would only replace the blown shock. Yet when you ask a shock shop to supply one shock you get the, " you must replace as a pair" response. I was told by the above-mentioned mob that it is rubbish that you do not need to replace both...Figure??.

My thoughts.... Rancho are way over priced, look at the American market,, show me if you can see a Rancho shock that costs more than $70.00 US. Ausy dollar should not equate too more than $140.00. Yet we pay $200.00. And as for the in cab adjustment kit, please why would you pay premium dollar for a product that at the end of the day once you spend three hours or more fitting in your pride and joy is going to hold you to buy rancho shocks in the future. US market you can pay $126.00 for the in cab kit. What do we pay??

Rancho should by stoked that you would pollute the inside of your pride and joy too adjust their average product. Can you tell me something about Rancho shocks that is outstanding?? Are they mechanically engineered superior to other shocks?? Can you rebuild them?? Are they rust proof?? Why are they one of the biggest manufactures of shocks in the automotive market?? Because the American market is one of the largest and they sell to the market at an affordable price, tell me if I am wrong..That’s all. They are our Munroe. Not to say they are crap they just fit the average blogs needs, nothing wrong with that. But why pay premium dollars for it??

As for fair market practices, IE, Global Market try buying Rancho shocks and or the in cab car kit from Ausy too US. All of a sudden the US Rancho shop is dumb founded and does not know what you are talking about..... Buy it locally.... Yeah right..

That is my ten cents worth.
