300tdi question

Post by dassaw »

What year did land rover start building the 300tdi's properly? As in which year did they stop having the major problems with the timing belts. Im looking at buying a series 1, not sure which years to look at.

Cheers

Not sure as the dealers only tell you based on vin numbers, not engine number or year.

However - there were 3 different fixes (a 3 stage kit), and older vehicles should have had the kit fitted. If you are checking out a particular vehicle, take the vin into a dealer's parts depo, and they can tell you which kit is required. Then you can check with the seller to see if it was fitted.

An early TDI engine should have no more problems than a late one once the kit has been fitted.

Hey,
kit 1 (STC4095K) to fit Defenders from MA 939976 to VA 101256
kit 2 (STC4096K) to fit Defenders from VA 101257 to VA 129096
while ERR7143,which is a timing belt cover seal accordingly to the software,is added to kit 2 for Defenders from VA 107351 to VA 129096.

Vehicles with factory fitted improved kits (at least here in EU) were supposed to have a cross painted on the cover (applies to input gears as well),this is not true as mine didn't have any cross but the kit had been added anyway

1st "improved" kit ran ok,2nd ran so bad that timing belt was changed (under warranty-phew!),3rd kit is still running good...
(touch wood)
:D
