80 series TD tune up in a washer.

Just thought I might share a good experience I had today. My 97 TD auto 80 has allways been sluggish off the mark till the turbo kicked in around 1800rpm. I had the injectors, valves, pump timing all done at West End and was told by them that I needed the pump rebuilt and it would cost about $1500 to $3k. I couldnt afford that so I let it go allways wishing the 80 would go better.
I had a crack on the pump mods on the LCOOL site and got it to go a bit better but not flash. I got sick off it this week and got a recommendation from here (from a past post search) to see a guy from Penrith Diesel. So I did. Stephen mainly does pump and injectors and seemed like a real nice honest type of guy that was relly helpful. I went to see him today to see if he could make it go any better.
He spent a minute checking it out, said the pump had been allready been rebuilt in 02 (there was initials and 02 engraved on it and doughted if the pump needeed a rebuild) and all the colour paint markers on it where not Toyotas. He said he done heaps of these pumps and knew how to get them to go. What he did was lifted of the top of the pump (only the cover plate with the top adjusting screw) found that I had allready had it near the max off boost fuel but he advised that it needed more. Then he placed a washer on the inside to pack the cam screw down even futher than the max fuel would previously allow. 15 mins later, all done.
What a difference, the car has gained about 60% more take off power from a washer!!!!
It does smoke a "little" bit more when you stomp on it but now instead a slowly cruising off the mark, trying to pick big gaps, this baby hoons. I did a u-turn tonight and I almost had both inside wheels chirping.
And to boot, it only cost me $40 for 60% power up. Just though I would share a good mechanical experience as they never normally go this way.
