G'Day All,
Am looking at buying a "cheapish" 4wd and the v8 Dico's appear to be good value these days.
I have seen a '95 model that I am interested in and am just after a bit of advice for things to look out for with these cars, including ongoing service/maintenance costs.
Thanks.

Landrover Disco ES v8

Any cheap Disco may cause you heart ache. The V8 is a proven engine, and as long as it serviced it will be ok. Regular oil changes on the v8 are an absalute must, and dont exceed 10000 klms. The 3.9 is fairly a robust engine, and can be thirsty if you have a heavy right foot. Ensure the car engages low range and holds the diff lock on.
if in doubt get a GOOD mechanic to look at it.
ES, is the top of the range in the Disco, normally heated and electric leather seats. elecy windows, make sure all the electrics work they cost a packet to fix. Rust spots are inner wings frn wheels. along the high roof mounted windows. Discos are all steel unlike the Rangies so they rust like any other car so check carefully fro signs, under the rear cargo area is a good spot to check as well as the front foot wells.
Good luck.

Wrong, all external panels bar roof are alloy same as a rangie, the roofs are susceptible to rust around the alpine windows and in the footwells if there has been a blocked aircon drain or heater core failure.muddydigger wrote:Any cheap Disco may cause you heart ache. Engines if looked after will go 300k + easy, auto can cost big bux to rebuild if done high k's. Late models 97-98' use bosch electrics which is half the battle with the earlier cars.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
Actually rangies have alloy roofs aswell. like I said they rust round the roof windows. Depends on models, mine has a steal rear door aswell so i presumed the rest of it was aswell. seeing as its a steel skelator body the whole thing is suseptable to rust.Loanrangie wrote:Wrong, all external panels bar roof are alloy same as a rangie, the roofs are susceptible to rust around the alpine windows and in the footwells if there has been a blocked aircon drain or heater core failure.muddydigger wrote:Any cheap Disco may cause you heart ache.
