35s on standard Rover axles
How long will the axles last? Are they strong enough.
You see i been copin shit about the 265/75R16 (yeah you already know) *coubastardsgh* *cough*
I originally went for this size b4 deciding to go crazy with the suspension on my 88-89 range rover. I was also advised that 35s would place way to much load strees on the axles (crown wheel or whateva).
Like i said currently the axles are standard I am looking to fit a maxi to the rear at a later date (not sure how late you see I GOT NO MONEY LEFT).
WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE RECOMMEND I would really liek to run 35's but if the car breaks straight away (first trip offroad) then its gonna be offroad for awile .

Depends on how you drive it?? I have a mate with 37"s on his 82 Rangie with 350 chev with maxi rear but 10 spline ARB air locker up front has never done a cv or axle.He drives stuff picks good lines & if he cant get up he winches or drives around
I run 35 Centrepides but drive hard and have done crown wheel & pinion & cv but never a Maxi axle

It is a matter of when not if like Tuff RR said, but if you drive carefully like Bodge has stated, you should be fine. 10 spliners are cheap as chips, but you could upgrade to the later 24 spline Discovery axles and diff, although the centre is still much the same as the old 10 spliners from what I hear (correct me if this isn't true).
I only run 31's and still have busted a diff, but no axles. Like Bodge, I run a 10 spline ARB air locker in the arse end as well, haven't broken an axle YET. (going away this weekend and let you know if I did touch wood!!!!!)
I say go for it, but be conservative on your off-road exploits and don't go mental with the loud pedal and you should be fine.

If you are keen then do it and carry spares and know how to change them.
A 10 spline axle is supprisingly strong if its in good condition. When they are old and have wear marks on the splines and maybe a few cracks is when they will fall off easily.
Steppping up to 35s wont magically destroy axles. Its just a degrees thing and you will just destroy them more quickly.

i have a shorty 2a with a 253 nissan gear box with the series transfercase.. and im running 35 silverstones mt-117 extremes (simex knockoffs) on rangie diffs and i am on my 3rd rear diff and with my orriginal axels,.
the rangie that i got the diffs and chassis out of were rolled.(must be a good rover lol).

I run maxi axles and lockers in a 73 Rangie with a 350 chev and do winch comps. It gets pushed pretty hard and i was doing a cv a comp. I now have yuri heat treat and chrome molly the cvs. i haveny broken one in 6 comps.
I am yet to do a maxi axle or locker. I bend steering arms and snap tie rods pretty regularly tho. The maxi's are hard to beat..

Bloody hell this was a loooong time ago now, owned about 6 rangies since then . I still stand by my comments from that time.

not sure what it is only new to rangies but it has big rectangle inspection plate out of 80mod with auto, and i have a 90 mod rangie and the transfer different what i need is rear output shaft and differental unit if that makes sense

all the star gears are smashed to a million bits and marked all the inside of the diff housing including chewing the splines off the end of the out put shaft shaft

If it is out of a 80 model, it is a LT95. But there been companys around they cut the transfer case of and mount it to an auto gearbox.
Looks like you have one of them.
