standard they have leaf suspension. They can be made to flex very well without too much work. There is a wealth of information on them here and other forums. Spend some time searching here, IH8mud, pirate and 3rd rock forums. And yes, they can make good comp trucks. FJ40s have won Tuff Truck numerous times. In fact i think the only year they didnt win Tuff Truck it was because an FJ45 won.

Mogrover won I think TTC 05, but hey you were close
I am actually chasing a FJ40-42 to go ballistic on as a promo vehicle/comp rig.

you can do lots with the 40's suspension..

you can go to town modifying leaf packs to give you good flex
Image
i probably need to mod my shocks to get more flex..
Image

or you can go to coils to give you MAAAAAD flex...

depends on how hard you want to comp it i suppose...

i also have a BJ42 for sale (no mods) if you want to start from scratch and go to town.. only $3k (ono)!!!

changed to 80 diffs as after all the work was done i stripped the diffs down for a rebuild and discovered the front housing bent [ at the ball end ] :bad-words: :bad-words: :bad-words:

mate had a set of 80 diffs so we did a quick conversion :bad-words:

no write up yet as i wish to it engineer it first wich it should be done this week

i wish to do a xlink to get more flex out of the front

cheers for your inputs... ive been told the shorty 40 wheelbase of 91 inches i belevies is too short for serious offroading when it comes too steep inclines. what are your thoughts?

Mine is still stock wheelbase, and felt ok on climbs out at LCMP last weekend. But I'll be doing spring flips front and rear to mine soon to get another 8" of wheel base. Should be ideal then.
