I have just replaced the clutch and put a different g'box in the zook and the box i took out looked similar but on a closer look it had no breather and had one less switch screwed into it. Any idea what it was from?
is it a sierra box or is it from a cary van or something???
BTW second gear sincro was stuffedthus the swap

1999 SQ625 Manual Grand Vitara. Lifted, Twin Locked, 31' Extremes, dual Batteries, Winch.
Lots of custom gear as I cant afford the proper stuff.

Yeah had the same prob on the weekend
Think the one with three switches is the early and the one with two the late model box
I just swapped the switches over so I did not have to hack the wiring loom as the plugs are different
Should check to see if my reverse lights work

not really to sure, but i think he wants you to count the switches and try swapping them.. may be wrong but thats the best i can come up with!

It should have a breather. All gearbox's need then, otherwise as they heat up they build pressure, forcing oil past seals etc.built4thrashing wrote:still doesnt answer what the box is out of .
I thought all sierras had breathers on the box but this one doesnt
weird
Layto....

Early gearboxes didn't have a separate breather on the top of the gearbox. My 85 SJ413 didn't have one.built4thrashing wrote:

Instead they have a little hole in the back of the shifter tower. Quite a pain in the ass as they piss oil out on really steep climbs / winches.
They also have less switches in them.
