Can any one give info on 7" Coil Lift on GU
I have made a new purchase. 02 Patrol Wagon 3TD. Ready for some serious mods. My mate has a 05 Patrol Wagon 3TD with a 4-5" coil lift along with 35's. His patrol drives really well both on and off road. Of coarse I want two go bigger so was thinking 7" coil lift with 37's. Just not sure how this will handle on the road. No doubt this will be awesome off road. This will be a every day car and serious off road wheeling on the weekends. Also not sure on 37's, will they scrub on inside of guard with wheel travelled all the way up into guard. Up for some feed back.

Chances are it will handle like shit, COG will suck, and you can fit 36's with a 3inch lift.
FWIW I had 7's in the GQ, and went back to 4inch lift and never regretted it, and when I started the GU build, there was no way I was going 4inch or bigger, just dont need it...
Also costs for 4in and over are quite a bit more as more bits are needed + good luck with engineering.

7" lift handles fine when set up with the right shocks there is no compromise for lift if you are a serious 4 wheeler, If you only go to the beach 2" is fine, as far as small pencil my girl freinds wagon runs 6" lift with 2" body, so any one with a 2" lift that feels they can keep up with a girl can come along.
Just cos a 2" fits your perpose dont nock the others cos they will make you eat your words.

For one thing you have purchased a 3L how in the hell are you planning on turning 37's ? you will have to upgrade ratios first to at least 4.8 and it still would be shit.
I put a 7" Lift on my GU I did it properly and it was shit. It was a tough dog kit with proper drop boxes, bushes arms the whole lot... The COG was absolute bull shit didnt handle and makes the 35's i had look pizza cutters... was a waste of time. Need to run the GU with 37's all the time try replacing them at $650 a tyre...
GU's only need 2" lift for 35's and 4" for 37's with the mud flaps removed however you need to ask yourself wheather you really need thoughs large tyres as the money spent on the suspension and tyres well you could just spend it on lockers.

7 inch lift is not easy to set up right expect to send up to 5k to make it work .forget the 37s your 3l will struggle to turn 33s in the bush unless you fit crawler gears. with out lockers you wont go places youll need these mods anyway. as fore you guys who recon you dont need more than 4 inch lift dont come wheelin with us

I did a 3 week West coast Tassie trip in my mates 3l GU with 35's and 6" springs and it was fine. Handled a lot better than i expected. I wouldnt be put off by what some ppl are saying if thats what you really want. It did sway a little onroad but ahh well you drive a bit slower. We kept up fine through the mountains (on road) with our other mates 80 series with a lot smaller lift.

GQII Patrol YAY!!
I just removed 7 inch coils and replaced them with 4 inch coils and spacers to level it out, and would like to remove my body lift at some point as well to lower the COG. On a shorty it's much more capable with the lower lift but LWBs seam to handle bigger lifts a bit better. If you want cheap 7 inch King Springs give me a PM.

Well I appreciate all the feedback. Seems as though allot of people are as much for as they are against a 7" lift. As for my 3lt turbo deisel as well as the coil lift and bigger tyres I will be doing plenty more mods. 3" Mandrelbends exhaust and computer chip snorkel etc. So maybe I will go a 4-5" lift with 36's. Who knows, as long as it drives okay on the road and tyres dont scrub too much at full compression and of coarse goes sick off road then I will be very happy.

All these people who say 4 inch lift and 36's are tugging too hard. Ive got 6 inch coils rear and 7's front and 30mm body lift in my gu and run 36" pedes on only 8 inch rims, no swaybars. Yeah it sways around but you learn to drive by it. If you wanted something to handle then buy a sports car. I can still take all the sign posted corners at the legal limit. My diff ratios are 4.6 and i do have the 4.2 diesel but it still pulls 140 maxed out. Ive attached a photo to show you how it sits with the pedes on and my 35's road wranglers.

Looks the goods Superduki. Was their any major mods to do for the 7" coil lift, as apose too a 4-5" coil lift ? Like your rear bar work. Did you do this yourself ? Im defienetly wanting to do something with my plastic rear 1/4 bumpers. They dont seem to like bouncing of rocks real good. Do your 37's foul on inside of guard fully compressed. As in did you need too chop into guard.
hey mate yeah deff id be keen on that lift i got a gq with a 6 inch and i like it but i was just looking at a guys gq with 8 inch springs 2 inch body 10 inch shocks and mt 38/15 tyres and i loved it it was sic as and it still drives fine i mean u loose a bit of power / handleing but yeah u got a 4bie what do u expect and also nothen tuffer then a big rig good luck what eva u chose
7 inch lift
As you can see from my name "superduki" i used to own a sierra. I built that from ground up but i decided to upgrade to something more comfy and reliable. I bought the patrol basically as is, apart from a few things ive modded. The rear bar work was built by the last owner, i can pm you pics of the mounting points if you wish. The 7 inch lift is basically adjustable panhards, 7 inch springs and shocks to suit, the rear arms are all standard, front arms are standard but 7 degree castor plates were used. Im gonna try the superior bolt on 6-8inch lift kit drop boxes as i get the datsun wobble from time to time. I dont run 37's only 36's. They slightly rub but only enough to take the paint off. The 35's clear by about half an inch.

Q78's on a Grenade on beadlocked 8's with 3inch lift. It worked very well, although the driver was sponge soft....

One thing People are overlooking is 3l deisel clutchs suck, unless you have a conventional clutch fitted instead of the semi slipping POS, bigger tyres = more load = more clutch slip = no clutch left

Ok then bogged fair call you have squeezed 36's in under minimal lift. Yes your COG would be lower than mine but at least ive got articualation to the max to play with? I live in Tassie so yes i do endure side leans, yes it can be scary at times but ive yet to put it over.
Lift what you wanna lift mate, but if you want big tyres and good articulation, a big lift is required.

A big lift can limit atriculation as much as help it. There is more to getting a car to flex well and be usable that just sticking a 7 inch springs and shocks into.

you can only get as much flex as the wheel can go before it hits the guards. mine flexes to full travel without touching.
