Would love to have something like this under the hood of the GU.Sure you'd need to do a fair bit of work but do reckon it would fit?

you would be so much better off just heavily modifying the stock diesel, that thing is so heavy/expensive, then you have the gearbox thing and so on.

I thought the 4.2 can be made to go very well when modified?
Other than for showpony ranking I wouldn't even consider it.

THe bandag Bullet (burnout truck) used to run the big brother to that, 892 detroit, twin turboed and used to smoke dual truck tyres!

As for the 692 fitting in your GU, yeah sure, anything can "fit" but practically no. A 3208 V8 turbo CAT motor would be better, but again impractacle! I've done circle work in Ford Cargo with one, plenty of herbs for a small diesel V8! :D

The only way it would fit would be on a pallet in the tray, this engine is longer that the bonnet and if you got it in at the right spot the eng would block most of your view out the screen with block and cylinder head and to further complicate it it would weigh around the 1200-1500 kg range. You would also need to add some serious fuel tank as those Detroit turbo 2 stroke diesels like a drink that why there cheap now a days.

Wally.
THERES ONLY ONE SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBES AND THATS MORE and if you want more inchs stroke it !!!!!!!!!!!

Standard fuel usage formula for a DD 53 was a gallon a cylinder an Hour.
So a 8 V 92 would probably be 2 gallons a cyl an hour. 16 gallons an hour.
Mind you that is under load and you could not load that engine in that application

even if it would physically fit (it won't), emissions requirements ensure you'd never be able to drive it on the street. let it go. a hot factory turbo diesel is a cheaper and more realistic option.

I'd say turbo the patrol diesel... But if you were hell bent on using a truck engine maybe something out of the current Isuzu trucks would fit, they are fairly available and make pretty good power, as for detroit 2 strokes (yea ok i'd like one in my patrol as well - for the sound) most of them are pretty tall, something like a 6v53 (in the youtube link above) may fit, 453, 371 may also fit, problem is most of these motors don't rev in stock form past 3 grand, so youd need a wide ratio box so as not to be screaming down the highway

In case you didn't know, the detroit engine numbers are the cylinders and capacity in cubic inches per cylinder, e.g. 6v53 is a V6 with 53 cubes per cylinder, therefore the 6v92 you were looking at would be about 9 litres or 550 cubic inches, perhaps more at home in a K100 kenworth, hehe.
The common sizes are 53, 71, 92 and 149 cubes a cylinder.

On another note mates dad just picked up an air compressor 600cfm, powered by a 6/71 detroit... i'll get to play with it!

Heres a turbo version of the one you looked at
