TD42 oil/oil filter combinations

Post by slowLux »

Before you say search, i just did and didnt find what i was after, not specifically anyway.

Ok, my question is, what oil and filters are you using in your TD42 GQ?

For the past two changes i've used Rimula X with ryco Z115 filters. The oil light goes out within half a second of turning the key so no worries there. But ive noticed its allot louder since using rimula x which i was quite suprised about. Im doing roughly 400kms a week with most of it averaging 80km/h, i was thinking of trying the penrite HPR for my next change (two weeks) but wasnt sure about the filters, stick with the Z115s or something else? or keep with the rimula X?

Its got 329 thou aswell

Thanks allot

Hi slowlux what are you after? would you like to be scared into using a poor oil by todays standards because once upon a time the only way it would perform to a minimum was with high calcium levels etc or would you like an oil that is fairly average but probably OK for the length of time most get to test an oil in one vehicle/engine but may very well decrease it's overall life or would you like an oil that science says actually works?

If the last try any CI-4 HDDO, remember too that even the CI-4 rating is a minimum standard so there are better.
Don't be fooled by old engine design, new engine design guff either -best to leave that to the shop mechanic and the marketers of poor/average oils.

Dello 400 is a known very good oil world wide that does not cost an arm and a leg but there are at least 2 better ones - not much better but better none the less.

After a horror story with filter brands and slow engine light outages I am now using Z9s and they seem to hold up so far, but and it probably doesn't matter in any great way I also use a bypass filter.

cheers fnq

Caltex DELO CXJ with Nissan Genuine Filters up until recently, but my cheap supplier has dried up so my next will be with Castrol J-Max, $78 for 20ltrs from truck parts suppliers.

Make sure you use an oil that complies with JASO DH-1 specs. Fark the C specs, they're all over the place and not designed to suit Jap engines like the JASO spec.

RX super is still around the 80 or 90 bucks a drum.... This is RX super PLUS an extended long draw hduty CI 4 truckoil which is above std RX super thats why the added cost... castrol claims you can on most trucks extend the oil change interval up to double on some vehicles

NOT that i am a castrol promotor or stockist
