A page I forgot to post
BTW I don't have a connection in any way to them, just curious as I had not seen them b4.
Aparently they want 8k+ for one with all the bells and whistles
A family member has had one donated to their club (not 4x4 club) to raffle, but they don't have a licence for something of that value, so they are thinking bout selling it.
Question and Answers
Q Availability
A. The EZYWINCH Winch is new to the market and currently only available through Ballina Truck Align.
Q.Information
Q. What is the price?
A. The hydraulic/electric unit will retail for approximately $4,000 (275 model) not including GST. This is an elite winch and is more reliable, smaller and outperforms other winches. It includes its own electric/hydraulic power pack and does not use the hydraulic steering system on the vehicle. Because of this and its unique hydraulic design, the winch offers superior features and is a reliable performer in an emergency
Q Fitting the winch to a vehicle
A. Fitting is not included in the price, but is as simple fitting a normal winch. The winch can be installed by following the installation instructions, B.T.A. Ballina or by a competent service centre.
Q. How is the winch controlled
A. The winch is operated by a cordless remote control with an overriding dash mounted control.
Q. Can plasma rope be used instead of steel?
A. Yes. The steel cable acts as an aerial for the radio remote control. When using a nonmetallic rope it then necessary to fit a small aerial to the winch control unit.
Q. Can the winch be mounted to all types of vehicles?
A. The winch is lighter and smaller than other winches, hence vehicle mounting is normal. The power pack will be mounted in the engine compartment or in the cabin dependent on the vehicle type or owners preference.
Q. Can the winch be mounted on normal bull bars?
A. The winch has a standard mounting plate and will fit to most steel winch bars including ARB & TJM.
Q. Can the winch be fitted to the vehicle power steering?
A. The winch is not intended to be fitted to the vehicle power steering system. It is fitted with its own power pack which draws low battery current (about 15% of that of other winches). This enables the winch to operate for longer times with a stalled or flooded vehicle engine.
Q. Does the unit require servicing?
A. Generally, no. It has one grease point which requires occasional attention.
Q. Is the winch waterproof
A. the winch does not have any electrics and is fully waterproof. It can operate submerged for extended periods
Q. Warranty
A. The winch has a warranty of 12 months on defects in materials and workmanship with a lifetime warranty on the frame.

Well if this is the case then it would be a lot slower tahn an electric winch. You cant draw 15% of the current and still ahve the same power!!!Q. Can the winch be fitted to the vehicle power steering?

hmmm.. i dunno, hydraulics can deliver a lot of power... that's why it gets used on so many heavy load applications instead of electrically driven units....
but it will tend to be slower....
Sounds like a good deal, biggest downside i saw with the ox hydraulic was that the engine had to be running to drive the powersteering pump, similar issue with PTO... not so good in water or for carby trucks stalled on a hill...

Yes a hydraulic winch can provide a lot of pulling force but that will be a compromise for speed if it is only pulling 15% of the power. You could use a much smaller electric motor that pulls 15% of the current and gear it down even more....same effect but slow.hmmm.. i dunno, hydraulics can deliver a lot of power... that's why it gets used on so many heavy load applications instead of electrically driven units....

You said that the unit includes its own elect/hyd power pack. If this only draws 15% of a normal dc winch, performance cannot be up to a standard winch. When you drive a pump, oil flows through hoses and valves, drives a motor.....etc, this all has frictional losses involved, so you could reasonably expect 10% or less of the perfomance of an equililant DC winch. There is no 'trick' hydraulic design that you can get more out the end than you put in. You can gain torque at a lower speed, or higher speed at a lower torque, not both.
If the power supply and hydraulic supply are techincally stand-alone, that would cost more due to the cost of a hydraulic pump hoses regs etc.
Says it can run underwater for a while, but it uses the cable as an antenna. Hm.
I'd sure as hell want to see one in action, or use it myself before shelling out 4k for it!
I mean, 4K will buy you lockers and halfway to a decent Warn electric.
Where can we check one out?
