Buying a modified Vitara from VIC

Post by daveSierra »

Hello All,

Just after a bit of advice here please.
I have the "opportunity" to buy a modified Vitara from Victoria.

The main mod is a 6" Calmini lift kit.

The seller has said that he won't get a RWC done as this is not needed in NSW. Is this true?

Also, if I do buy this car and bring it into NSW does anyone envisage an issue with getting it registered? Will I need an engineering cert? If the seller has an engineering cert will this be valid in NSW?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Kind regards.

A Victorian RWC is useless in NSW. You'd need to get a NSW Blue slip done

As above

Will I need an engineering cert?
Yes you will

If the seller has an engineering cert will this be valid in NSW?
Maybe, it depends on who the engineer is and if they are registered themselves with NSW RTA

My brother recently renewed his NSW rego with a QLD RWC. Lots of people are interstate on holidays/working when renewal is due so a QLD RWC or Victorian RWC or whatever they call it in Vic IS VALID in NSW for rego renewals and for transfers. New rego may be another story.

Yeah legally, ur not supposed to exceed 2" of lift to remain road legal, and no more than 15mm in overall increase of tire diameter (though u can get an engineering certificate.

personally till its all legal i wouldn't be touching it with a barge pole, as its actually a legal offence to buy and drive a car thats not road legal
