Whats the lightest V8

No but the Rover V8 is worth about $1000 fitted to a Hilux where as the Lexus is worth around $6000 fitted to the same vehicle. For the gain in Hp it isnt worth it in my mind and who wants big Hp when you are trying to drive around at around 1500rpm on rocks.Hp is all good when you want to blast up a hill but it is torque down low you want for rock crawling and the Rover V8 coupled with dual cases will do just fine.

The lexus motor's can be baught for $1600 in a front cut computer and everything that has to be tempting.Injection will always be better than carbies on the big angles.
yeah i priced one about 3-4 months ago and it was $1500, my old man does work for the import place and QLD price is around $2000 for the cut. Although you can get he engine for about $800 bucks they are often missing all the vital and $$$$$ parts.
I would agree that the injection will do better but there is no reason that a properly setup carbie and gas wont do aswell.
I think another fact that needs to be considered is the up keep on the engines and the cost of parts, not to mention the availability. I think the rover would be alot better in this department, on the other hand i think that the toyota motor runs Z9 filters that everwhere (bar autobarn) seem to stock and they are cheap.

I agrea they may be reliable but how do you fix a dead TPS,AFM or computer in the middle of the bush? I know myself with the factory EFI on my 22R the TPS has failed but luckily i had a spare but if i had the choice bettween the lexus and the rover for a rig that you usually drive hours from a toyota dealer that the simple carb set up just has to be better. Sams hybrid runs on its side as good as it does on flat ground and that is with a pair of CD strombergs on it.
The Soarer auto is most likely an A340 so it can be used ( see the "how bout thread" ) The A340 is used in the lux/supra/lexus/soarer. The lux in the other thread has got the soarer auto which all but bolted straight upto the factory transfer case ( the chain type transfer )
If you use a Lexus V8 the same applies, the A340 will bolt straight up, plus if you can use the factory computer then the auto will change gears properly as well. I help fit a 5M into a 1990 surf with an A340 but we couldn't get the computer for the auto going so just made up some switchs on the dash to change gear... been like that for 12 months and the dude loves it

The A340 is a 4wd auto standard !!
The 2JZ @ $2000 included auto, computer, looms, radiator.. basically everything you need (except transfer case, but you could sell the ol G52/W56 box and transfer for enuf to buy the transfer bits you need )
The 2JZ makes 220hp as is and you can buy bolt on junk to get different power ups up to 1200hp !!!!!. The motor is verrrryyyy smmmoooottthh. In standard form I bet its a sh#t load more economical than the rover. Whats the power of a rover 3.5 ?? 160hp ???. If you want the torque of the rover then gear the 2JZ to suit.
Things like the exhaust are easy compared to the V8 which will set you back xtra $$$
Add up the cost of an old rover which prob needs reconditioning, adapter, exhaust, radiator blah blah....

There's some good points in there floating around.
However for Rockcrawling all i want is a light weight engine with a fair bit of power.
You dont really need massive amounts of horse power just enough to keep up the momentum.
Also reliability is a big issue with me i want something that wont stuff up in the middle of a comp.
I know the lexus engine would be relaible but all the electricals would be the concern.
The rover engine seems to be very common, and if something stuffed up i'm sure there would be a rangie gurru around somewhere.

Also there is always a good chance there is a Rangie parked close buy you could borrow parts to continue. And Most Rangie drivers would lend you what you need.
I doubt you are going to find a lexus or a saurer or even if you are lucky enough there is a Lexus 100series there the guy aint going to lend you jack from his big $$$ rig.

Yeah i was going to save that one, but thats right the amount of rangies that would be up at a comp or just out cruising would be a great deal more than a lexus.
The thing is too, they probarbly wouldn't need to strip parts off thier cars as most rangie drivers i've seen are always really well prepared and carry all the right spares.

they carry heaps of spares cause the cars are POS and always break down....
but at least they should be able to help you fix it
and if ruff and boatlux get rovers, then there will be heaps of spares (when they arent looking) (or we could all lend each other stuff if necessary)
hands and mums dont count!!!

Re: Alloy V8
My mate raced that at the first comeback race for the oran park 6 hour. The first and only appearance on the racetrack and it didnt even make it to the race! It was such a piece of crap! It run like a busted a$$ and handled shit.
My mate hopped on it in practice and blew the thing to pieces!
Shame about that could have abeen a nice toy
good reason why nothing much has happened about it since.
