tyre deflaters

Post by MissDrew »

Since I have in a way hijacked a topic in the wanted section about valves I thought I`d start a new one here with my post.

I`ll bet $250 that simply turning the top valve cover, then turning the release valve, waiting about 30 secs, then tightening the valve release, then tightening the valve cover is quicker then.

taking valve cover off, inserting valve removale tool, twisting it all the way out, waiting the 30 to 45 secs for it to air down, then reinserting the valve, twisting it all the way up and reinstalling the valve cover.

Oh and top of this you have had to get the valve removel tool out of wear ever you keep it.

So lets get together and see who can air down from 35psi to 5 PSI the quickest

It's not just the quickest that counts... i'd take 5 mins more if it saved me $250... you guys that buy $60 deflators have difficulties spending your hard earned cash?

Mate I have

A house loan

A Wife

and 4 kids to feed and look after, one of which is a teenager

this is without the 4x4ing

all on 1 wage of $550 per week.

I don`t think I have a problem finding things to spend my money on.

But if something is good then its worth it.
But your statement was that nothing is quicker then removing the valve to air down, well I`m willing to bet $250 that there is something quicker and its not via the side wall of the tyre

I use an ARB Twig, available from the ground anywhere.. works a treat, the $60 goes towards a slab.

YMMV

The TJM stick also works well for a fraction of the ARB price.

how about a race for the slowest deflaters!
i bought a set of oasis ones years ago, first you have to pump up the tyres as they wont start until they are 20psi above the set pressure, then they let the air out extremely slowly [around 5 to 6 minutes to go down the 20 psi]
wanna buy them ? [theres only three left though i can tell you roughly where to look for the other one]
came with a nifty pouch and a good low pressure gauge though

id have to agree, its not whats the fastest and easiest way to do things. Im happy using the good old core remover and guage, if its gunn save me money. I love gadgets, but id prefer to spend the dosh, on something with while, like GPS and so forth, just my opinion.

There is absolutly no way i would spend $250 to buy something that could be broken off by the first rock that rolls into my rim. I have valve guards welded to my rims and also carry Spare stems just in case. The way the RAD system works i cant see how you could run a guard on the rim to sufficiantly protect them.

Also i dont see why you would need to air down fast. Or could this be a new event for TTC this year?

You wouldn't see me buying $250 tyre deflator because i don't need to do it that often but i can understand the guys who do this on a regular basis using them.

Again too much money too throw around :D

Anyway, I can see this is getting you all worked up, so i say horses for courses... but my deflating tool cost me nothing therefore cost/time i'm really the one infront

BTW what's the aftersales service on those ARB sticks... i think it's worth spending the extra cash over the TJM just for the name alone :D

WTF is the pont of having the tyre air down quickly if you still have to hang around to shut it off. Might as well pull the valve core, at least then there is one less thing to bust out of the rim the first time some angry rock gets in there.
At least with the staun type thingies you can screw them on, then walk away and talk shit and check out other people's trucks or whatever...

I got a set of Stauns for Fathers Day and used them for the first time on the weekend.

After years of using the "ARB and TJM Sticks" I can say I WONT be going back to them

Let me see "Stick..........pssssshhhhhhh..........check pressure.............Stick..........pssssshhhhhhh  ..........check pressure.............Stick :x ..........pssssshhhhhhh..........check pressure.............damn  and thats ONE tyre, multiply that by 4  OR screw on 4 valves and walk away till they're done (to your preset pressure) :D

I got my Stauns thru www.offroader.com.au. Steve gave me a killer deal!

I love them. Also great for night runs where you don't have to worry about reading pressure gauges / losing valve stems etc ;)

With 33s the first tyre has pretty much aired down by the time I have finished fitting the 4th one. (Airing down from 36 to 20psi only)

I have 2 sets of Stauns, both at seperate pressures.

they work well, in the rain, i screw em on and keep driving... no standing in the rain, and easy enough to hand to a passenger to save getting out :D

sticks work, but are slow and a pain in the arse.

Those tricky valves for $250 would be nice, but, unfortunately don't work when you run tubes. :( Simex Tubes Rock.

Although, when i am back on the road... I am going Secondairs... so might be worthwhile then, but $250 is a lot of Coin for a product i can do the same for $60

$60 (or more) just to gain a few seconds - guys you need less caffene in the system....
I likes the core method myself - but I just make sure I carry a few spares after one when skyward & landed with a plooop into a Menai Mud puddle

I never check the pressure of my 42s, i air down if they look big, n fact sam has only ever added air in the last year or two when they go dead flat. Same here, never check the pressure. For my street tyres, (35" BFG mud terrains) i just air down while chatting then check it and go FARK 5 psi, better let the rest down that far.

who cares what pressure you run or who airs down the fastest. ROFL what a loada

After you have done it a few times, you can work out that 30 seconds is approx 20psi (or somethign like that) and its not so much of a pain in the arse... Sticks rock, and they come in many colors. Drink the $60 of pi$$ while you air down...

I love my Stauns, they may not be the fastest way to air down but it's not a time thing it's a convenience thing. My dodgy knees thank me for it every time, I used to feel like a real old fart trying to stand up after squatting or kneeling beside the car for a few minutes. I usually disconnect the swaybar and lock in the hubs while the staun's are doing their job. Same as I reconnect the swaybar and unlock the hubs when airing up. Also it can be hard on some of the island barges to actually squat beside the tyres and air down.

Best $40 I spent.

Firstly I don`t know what they are worth but I THINK they are around $250

Secondly, before I got the RAD vavles I was just like everybody else and would have not spent that money on buying them, but now that I have them I love them and wonder how I didn`t go nuts before with using the ARB stick or removing the valve.

Thirdly with running beadlocks there is no way that they can be knocked out by a rock. I can see this being an issue without beadlocks but not with them, well beadlocks that have lots of depth like mine anyway.

Forthly I don`t care about airing down quickly either, all I said was that there is a quicker way then removing the valve and that is with RAD valves. I only said this because somebody said that "there is nothing quicker then removing the valve"
