1HZ TD I/C oil cooler

Post by BeerCruiser »

A question for all you 1hz td i/c gurrus,

Is there any advantage fitting an external oil cooler to one of these donks or is the standard coolant cooled oil cooler sufficient.
I can understand it would be pointless in a std 1hz donk but when your running 15psi boost and things a getting very hot under the bonnet does the std oil cooler handle it.

I don't have any cooling probs with mine but since I recently fitted a bypass oil filter I have been surprised how f____g hot this filter gets. I put a digital themocouple on the filter, drove around a while monitoring it, the temp varied from 90 c driving easy & up to 105 c giving it stick up a hill.
BTW the bypass filter pressure pick off IS cooled oil.

Has anyone fitted one to this donk?

where have you picked off the oil from?? The sensor port??? Oil runs alot hotter than ther coolant, it is obviously having heat drawn from it with the internal oil to water cooler that Toyota installed factory....an oil cooler external of the motor will help keep temp down, but it will also add heat to the rad if it is put up front, and then there is extra possibility of failure of hoses...etc....so i would run synthetic oil, which is stable till alot higher temp aswell as shear strength is better... and u will only be going through 1 litre every oil filter change :)
