MK/MQ front leafes? same? but different?

Post by Vanne »

Hi, how can i tell the diff between aftermarket front leafes? i got myself a realy nice set from Ironman, and turns out they dont have the same shackle holes as my older self modded iron man leafes.

just wondering if there supposed to be the same at the front eye?

My mQ ones have room for the neo-phrene bushes at the front, where as the ones ive got here (got em for free btw) seems to me they only have room for a metal bush?

mk have a bigger hole at the shackle end.
as you prob know mq ran a metal bush, but mk ran rubber ones

mk flex better n much smoother n less noisy ride

I'm Sorry to Vanne, But macca81 is right mq had stell bushes no rubber ones and the shackle straight Compared to mk which had steel bush at the top and rubber in the leaf also the shackles on a mk are dog legged like the ones in the photo, So to me you may very well have a mq but to your advantage you have a mk front end

the mq leaves have a rubber outer with a metal crush tube on the inside where as the mk are just plainly rubber or neolothane now days or however u spell it ...

the mq has around about a 13mm bolt size as apposed to the mk which bolt size is more closer to 16 mm so thus when upgrading leaves you should also upgrade your shackles if you are changing from mq to mk

thou most lift kits incorporate the shackle now days...

so badger is correct and in my oppinion you will definately find that the mk will flex much better as they have more movement in the bushes ...

the rear of the leaves or fixed end are both the same in both mq and mk

As per your photo you have mk Leafs and shackles. MK have dog leg , And if they are straight they are mq

If you have square head lights you might find your how patrol is a mk not an mq

There sould be no confusion now

square headlights, dogleg shackles and a SD33-T, that's an MK :) None of these were in the MQ.

Do you have a 5 speed in it?

Edit - your sig. says '85 model, MKs were 83-86.

i have a sneaking suspicion that mq's continued production till 85 even tho the mk's started in 83... i dont know where this suspicion comes from, but for some reason it popped into my head that the didnt just stop production of mq's but actualy phased them out over 2 yrs...

please someone confirm or deny this for me :D

from what i was told. Technically there is no such thing as a mk according to nissan they are all the same car................. mq series 1 and 2
as far as i kno australia was the only country they marketed them as mk's

spoke to a guy at redcliffe nissan and he recons this is true
