Hilux diff forward????
Hi all
Ive had a search but i cant find the exact answers im looking for. I have an 85 4 runner with a solid front and want to move the diff forward for tyre clearance.
I am getting the adjustable torque rod and shortened drag link from superior engineering so i have that covered there.
The question im wondering is about the shocks. When i move the diff forward the shocks are going to be on an angle. Is that going to matter?
Will the J arm hit on the shock when im steering?
At this point in time high steer or cross over simply isnt an option!
My main concern is about the shock setup. Any input would be appreciated. Have i missed anything when i have been checking this out?
Cheers Matt

hi i have done this and i havn't had a problem with the shocks gettin hit by the j arm or the angle of the shocks, The shocks actually have rubber bushes and will jst pivot in the mounts to allow the changed angle.
Me personally i dont think cross over steering is worth the money, i changed the origional steering arm to a superior eng roc rod and with a 4-5 lift and 33's i never hit the steering arm.. Good for comp driving but...
P.s. I moved my diff about 35mm forward and the 33's still hit the gards
my 2 cents

3.0L turbo diesel, 4" lift, bud's front housing, track assasin cv's, air lokker front + Rear, beadlock'd 37 stickies, high steer, 15.5" travel ranchos, high pinion diff and coils on the rear
Thanx for the reply brad it makes me feel a bit more at ease. The 35's on mine are just hitting the inner guards at full lock so im hoping this move forward will clear that. I have a 2" body and a bit saggy 2" spring in mine at the moment. Im also hoping moving the diff forward will give the diff centre a bit more clearance off the bowl of the sump since i put the V8 in.
The truck is just a rec rig and wont see comp.

Rears up the front is a good option just it takes it 50mm foward so long as it's all adjustable it should be right just something to consider mines had the spring perch drilled as far back as possible and my 35's hit on full flex diffrent models could be a cotributing factor there tho. With crossover it's to stop the draglink hitting the spring pack/U-bolts on full flex i have a drop draglink on mine and it still hits which can sh*t you off when you need to turn and it won't
plenty of parts on the bench
smash the inner all the way to the body mount move your fuse box first i found out the hard way ioi , cut and roll the gardsmattsluxtruck wrote:I looked at smashing in the inner guards but the problem i was going to run into was the body mount was going to be in the way too. What part of the guards and how much did you smash in?
so question will i beable to jus redrill the perchases to clear 35's???? cos i dont wanna fook wit bloody puttin rears in the front to much work! ive got 33's and they only jus touch and i havnt done a thing! oh my lux is a ln106 haha i hav more problems with my tyres scrubing on my chassis at the bak then i do touching the guards at present!
