Here is a pic in the early days with 33" BFG's, good tuff car, but we bought it rolled, Sandy fixed it, then 2 weeks after it was fixed truck ran into it and did $10,000 damage, fix it again (insurance), then I rolled it about 6 months later, didn't bother trying to buy it back off insurance and bought my first Mav with the payout, it was a bit of a jinx.

I was looking at Ferozas and Vitaras, but found Feroza's were cheaper and better appointed for the money. Also, with Ferozas the fibreglass roof can be removed to make it a convertible without the worries of someone breaking in through a soft top.
As has already been mentioned aftermarket parts are virtually non existant in the way of lockers etc. Suspension lifts aren't a problem, it all depends on how much you want to mod it. Engine parts are available eg extractors.
Well apart from making sure it has the "basics" being spoties, bull bar, uhf radio and a nice set of mud tyres (just standard size) that is about all I will be doing to it. I am not going to be doing anything extreme I just want to be able to drive up hills with ease and do a few other moderate things.

You guys have been more than helpful it is great. I posted this same thing on another forum and got hardly any info. I will let you all know what I end up with, I will be reading 4wd monthly (they have done articles about both suz and dia) so I guess the big decision will be made after I test drive some over the weekend. I can't wait!!

and after you get it pm me and we'll do a few mods ( highlift, loud n proud zorst, aggressive bullbar [predestrain frendily ofcourse!], driving lights everywhere, and a set of personalised number plates that says...."like I care" and then parking it, changing lanes, reversing, and all the other things a small 4x4 does so well wont be an issue at all !!!!!

Has anyone had much to do with Rocky's. I have just been having a look around in hte trading post, a 94 model diesel in their for just under $10000
There's a few Rocky owners in the Daihatsu section- try posting any questions there as they may not read this.
They're basically a bit bigger and tougher than the Feroza. Came out with a 2l petrol, 2.8l diesel and 2.8l diesel turbo. The turbo is of course the one to pick. I believe early models had solid front axle and later ones were IFS. The later models were also a wider track (much like the two versions of the Feroza.)

94 Rocky is just what I got and getting one for that price is good value.
Since Aug 93 Rocky came with only one spec (4 colours) .
2.8 Turbo Diesel intercooled (75Kw), Air, IFS and coil on the back.
Average fuel consumption is around 10l/100kms.

My old man had a ROCKY, brought it new and drove it everyday as a farm truck!
It was a solid front end and a very capable little machine!
He clocked up 490,000 km and was running strong until it was burnt down!
Lets put it this way it would have still been going if it wasn't for a short in the old (one of the first) engel fridge.

Bit late to have my say However, Feroza's are built much stronger than Zooks. I had a guy in a zook hit me in a minor bingle at Bondi. My repair costs were a bottle of cutting compound his Zook near a write off.
Just can't compare em for comfort on road, The Feroza's are capable of long road trips with relative comfort andd are fair in the bush with minor mods and can take a bit of bashing without to much damage.
However you can modify a zook so that it's the best off roader available.
Lets know what you end up with.

For some reason Bundy's are much more expensive up here in Brissy, so I shoulda bought one in Melbourne before I moved if I wanted one.....
yeh, that is right, and in worse condition..... I only found rusted out beat up crap in brissie, ended up buying mine from just over the border...
Also, if you are still watching for bundys, check out the roof sills for rust (alot that i saw had been bogged up something shocking....) cracks on door hinges as well.
you will find a good one out there though.

Oh yeah, another advantage of the Feroza/ Rocky over a Suzuki : the Ferozas and Rockys come with 15x 6" wide rims standard so you can fit bigger, wider tyres on them. Vitaras only have 15x 5.5" wide rims standard (from what I've read) meaning you can't even fit a 235/75R15 on them. (Later model Vitaras have the 16" rim.)
By the way I'm not biased at all!
Ferozas also have galvanised body panels, which is why you won't see many with any rust. I'm not sure if the Rocky also does?
