Sleeping in back of LWB Sierra?
Sleeping in back of LWB Sierra?
Anyone tried sleeping in the back of a LWB sierra or putting a bed in the back? any pics? how'd it go?
Got a LWB project on the go and thought it'd be cool to just be able to sleep in the back on safari type trips... not really taking about fullon camper type wagon just like a foldup foam mattress over a false floor, with recovery gear/luggage in drawers under it...
From prelimary measurements i can't quite lie down straight with the front seats in normal position, so maybe swap dropdown tailgate or something??
The plan is at the moment:
1985 LWB Sierra Convertable, 6pt cage, rocklobster, ?31-33's, Spring under, virtual lift, 2" spring lift, road legal, fibreglass canopy, rear lockrite, 9000lb warn winch

i used to sleep in the back of my LWB ute when it was just a tray top. I had some aluminium hopps made up so i could stretch a tarp over it to keep the rain out. Just had a foam mattress in it and had the tailgate down.
There was one I saw on a Thai Suzuki site where someone had made a resin top LWb into a sleeper. He modified the passenger seat so it could move further forward. Then he had a small shelf made out of rhs with a vinyl padded top that folded out on the passenger side. Seemed to work well but remember he was a small wiry guy so space wasn't an issue. If you are a largish guy it might be a problem

Ive made a bed for the back of my 85 lwb. Its basically a sheet of plywood cut to size, with some timber underneath to raise it off the floor, as there is the hoop for the rear seats welded onto the floor.
With both the front seats forward all the way, i can fit a foam mattress perfectly in there, and stretch out completly (im 6 foot 1).
Ill take some photos this arfternoon for you.
Cheers, Michael

yeh the truck is a wee way off, spent last month cutting and welding rust from it... got the gearbox and transfer in the other week and the motor goes
still need to modify cage (looks little weak)... put all rest of running geat back in.. put interior back in... make the 31's fit.. build rocklobster.. put winch back together.. build winch bar... put all lights in etc etc...
