Check if the box has detent springs. Rovers have them . If they loose tension jumping out of gear is common.

gearbox

Post by micka1 »

On my gq i had the same problem except it was second gear . my fix was to pull the gear lever boots and plate under neath it off , pulled the top plate off the gearbox ( i had no bodylift and did it so with 2 inches it would be easy ) and found that my shift fork in the gearbox was worn and not fully engaging gear . this can be diagnosed by pulling the side plate off the gearbox passenger side and putting it in third gear ( or what gear it pops out of ) and looking through the plate to see if it has fully engaged the gear . Just what i did hope it helps .....

Its very common for shifter forks to wear on GQ box's mostly 3rd and 2nd
gears the synchro hubs are usually ok.So it's just a matter of changing lid, also check the cups the gear stick ball sits in if worn replace them they cause problems to.
