its a 2lt motor
on idle the red/orange light is on an sometimes flashing but when your drivingit goes out an the green light comes on an you can hear the turbo boosting an it is all good would this be a boost leak or a turbo problem.

firstly is it a 2lt or 2lt-e ?
if 2lt-e you can pull up the fault codes easy enough.
otherwise redlight can mean just about anything. comman problems are tps faults, dash connection (really easy to bend the contacts when fitting the dash back), water in fuel filter etc. i would check fuel filter first.
on the 2lt it can sometimes be easier to disable the emmision gear then pull the red bulb out and throw it away.

it also has a boost gauge an on idle the needle also is jumping back an forwords i dont have the car yet i just went to look at it as it is for sale.
the guy who owns it at the moment has just spent heaps of money on it for injecters glow plugs suspension an heaps of other shit.

the pulseing could well be the buterfly partly colseing on and off. simply disable it, plug the top vaccum hose on the acuator (make sure it the one that closes the butterfly). you will notice it a bit rougher to shut off.
also check if the EGR has been blocked off, not just disabled ie by a ball bearing in the hose. if you just disable it it can stick open causeing similar problems which is why its best to block it off.
also check the vacpipe off the manfold, the one that goes to the pump/boostsensor as they often crack and leak.
