Selling 4by with or without accessories?

Post by GU BUG »

I'll be selling the GU shortly & was looking for opinions on whether it would be best to sell the wagon with or without the accessories :?

I thought it would sell better with all the bits & pieces on it but I'd have a bigger field of buyers if I dropped the price & sold the accessories seperately, but then I've gota go through the headache of trying to off load all the bits & pieces .

Opinions wanted :?

nothing shits me more than people justifying accessories addin to the value of the vehicle.

Its still the same year and model vehicle as 100's of simliar other vehicles.

Take em off.. put em on the next vehicle.

Sell your vehicle as is standard for the going price.

Accessories sold will then go straight into your wallet :D after vehicle is sold.

EG.

vehicle with accessories... 8000

Vehcile sold without accessories - 7800

accessories sold afterwards - up to 2000 cash in pocket.

Just my 2c.

Surely I would have thought that when the accessories include bullbars, lockers, roofracks, dual battery systems, etc this surely must add some sort of value :?. Depends on what the buyer wants to do with the 4wd I guess.

I'll be keeping what I can for the next one (a GQ ute) but what ever else I can't use I will be selling either with or without the car.

Would you buy an $8k car with no accessories, or an $8.5k car with bullbars, uhf, spotties and roof racks ? Of course you can ask more for a car with accessories. What a stupid thing to say.

just my two bob.

You will allways sell a car easier with accessories. You may not get a lot more for it than you would without but it will sell a lot faster.

Makes more sense to sell without accesories as you only get a little more with them on,seen people trying to sell $20,000 cars for $40,000 because they have accessories :bad-words: you would be lucky to get 10% of money back for accesssories sold with vehicle rather than 50-60% sold separately.

depends on exactly what accessories? / rip lockers out i would say and sell roof rack as most old boys have caravan... leave other shit to keep the potential old man buyer happy..

target your market eg old man keen on touring / wknd beach trips retired with $$ to burn.........sometimes accesories can attract a younger tight as a fish's market :!:

Some people won't buy a 4x4 that looks like its been offroad also... This is where accessories can be a downside.
On the other hand, some people would pay a bit of a premium for a 4x4 already setup.

I'd take most of them off, and always have them as an extra drawcard if needed.

yeah i would take most off.
i see accessories as a bonus to the right buyer.
but you can have 20K worth of bits, you will only get 2k more for your car.
keep and sell some seperately.
winches etc i think are a good example.

if you leave the all the goodies on there it will sell faster than all the others but don't expect anyone to fork out any more money than they would if it were stock.

I sold my old 80 series for 6 grand unregd and all the accessories mods, for 4 grand and still made good money. Just about the same price i would have sold with accessories on it. Just at the time i didn't get any buyers interested in the whole lot for $10 grand.

Was easier this way to sell off in bits

Yes I agree with what has been said above. People quite often look for a 4by already set up with all the accessories because it saves them thousands of dollars that it would cost to buy a stocko and then buy all the accessories.

When I bought my Discp it had been set up for touring (as much as a V8 petrol is a tourer  ). Even though it was in fantastic nic and had the accessories it was still priced around the rest of the ones I was looking at. The difference in the sale was that I bought this one the first week it was advertised whereas the others I had looked at had been for sale for a while some over 6 months (I was looking for a long time).

I guess it depends on the market you are targeting though. Plus what else is for sale in your area.

No accesories and sell them later, when ive brought 4B's i go for the stockers as there's far less chance they have been used for hard offroad use so should be in better nic and fit the brand acc i want as i alway's have reused acc like winches lockers etc it just the model specific stuff wont change over and then its easy to sell anyway.

Correct - Depends on accessories, and use. I totally agree with others. Some people have $10,000 accessories, and try and get $7000-10,000 back. pole smokers.

Some people like to buy fully setup, others like to buy never used offroad and set up with their own gear.

You could strip it, and then offer the parts to the buyer if he is interested.

I wanted to swap 2 lockers from GQ to GU, was $900 - 1500 to swap them from one car to the other

Things you mentioned I'd keep - lockers, duals, radios.. But the rack and b/bar wont be of use. I had problems selling my GU Bar, theres heaps around (check Ebay) so value aint high as they are worth. Racks are similar, but Im lookin for one currently, and all are in QLD or NSW, freight kills it :bad-words:

You could try selling Loaded, see how you go if you get any bites. All depends on the right buyer on the day.
