LOCK-RITE DIFF LOCK
I recently fitted a lock-rite diff' lock to the front of a 60's L/C it had been in 4wd for 15 min's went through a small mud hole and went bang!
I've pulled it apart and the R/H cv is busted and the springs that hold the pins in the drive plates of the locker have come out.
Has any one had much to do with these type of lockers, I'm trying to figure out if the cv breaking caused the springs to come out or vice versa.
I'm still undecided if this brand of locker is any good.Had experience with them in hilux's and they bust cv's too.I think it's better if you can switrch them off.
I'm keen to hear from any one who's used them and if they have had the springs come out.

Have run them in a 60 a GQ and now a comp hybrid zuk lux never had a problem. As for the springs comming out I think you didnt fit them correctly as I just pulled one apart and had a hell of a time getting them out.Your cv might of been on its last legs. Some times if you blow a cv it sends the axle inwards which can brake the pins inside the locker best is to place a small blod of weld on the spline just out side of were they fit in the diff center so that they cant be driven inwards
duncan,
The springs are fitted through slots in the housing there realy isn't any way they can't be fitted properly,
1 push pin out of slot into hole.
2insert springs(inner and outer) into slot behind pin, locate end securely.
No one I've spoken to has had this problem, 4 other mechanic's have had a look with me and drunk or sober it's still a mystery.
I'm starting to wonder if they're the right springs, each pin has an inner and outer spring behind it, so there should be 4 inner and 4 outer springs yet in the kit there were 6 outer and 5 inner springs.
There was no damage to the springs that had come out and one pair were still in so I believe it all happened at once.

Usually if you bust an axle/cv under power, the pins will smash. As long as there are no abnormal wear marks on the locker, just fit a new pin&spring kit to it and re-fit to the diff. Bout $20 or so for pins i think.
