Can anyone tell me why you couldnt run 2 upper control arms and only one lower instead of the normal other way round

You can Duncan... no worries.
Safari Gard have done this with their 3 link for rovers for ages....
only problem is puts a lot of force under braking on only the lower arm..
there were a couple of early failures but then they toughened it up.
