V8 Disco - alternator swap to Bosch

FYI, I have fudged a Bosch alternator into the Disco in place of the not so happy Marelli one. The Marellis are rubbish - bearings too small and impossible to get bits for at reasonable prices. I put in a complete Magna Verada V6 (1994) used Bosch for less than the bearings might well have cost, and certainly less than new brushes would have cost.

Happy to answer questions if anyone wants to do the same.

I for one would definitely like to know all the details on what you had to do to make it fit ;)

There's a heap of info on the individual pages linked from the above URL.

Anything specific you need to know?

It was a '94 Mitsubishi Magna Verada alternator, Bosch manufacture. Standard regulator as fitted to the Magna. Some wire, misc bolts and washers, scrap steel, and I am pretty sure the pulley is from a VS series Commodore.

I think [not 100% sure] that even the V8's get their tacho signal from the tacho.......How did you get around that aspect?

The alternator is a 14V 90 Amp model. I dunno how the output curve differs from the Marelli, but it works fine.

Price? $35 second hand from eBay, but Pick A Part charge $32 for a complete alternator and they have plenty of buggered Mitsubishis. I threw new bearings at it for another $15.

ByronAU - have you actually had a look at the link? If you look at the individual pics, there is plenty of info there. The tach is driven off one of the stator coils before the rectifier diodes. See the pics!
