Diesel Filters

Anyone know places for cheap FUEL filters? Went to supercheap they wanted $40 for one for a GQ.

Z332 is the Ryco part.

Or should I go CAV Filter system?

pay the $40 and dont be a tight arse, cheapo fuel filter and you risk rooting your engine

I need to do a few in few weeks so buying a few aint cheap, specially throw aways...

Not after cheapo filters just cheapo prices

Go the CAV option. The filters are Delphi (old Lucas) 296 and are about 8-10 bucks (cheap enough to change every 5000k's). Expensive at first (the Adaptor setup - about 120-150 bucks) but well worth the money - being able to see the fuel and water/sediment trapped in the clear glass bowl is ideal for regular maintenance. I bought a cav adaptor with a primer pump built into the head for my hilux and paid 120 bucks including a 296 filter. Ryco also make an adaptor with polycarbonate sediment trap, but unsure of prices of adaptor and filters.

Yea thanks Spaz for the link, I think Area54(dont know ya name) has the go though...

I think the Cav system is the go, $105 for the kit for the TD42 from BJ Diesel in Dandenong, $8 per filter.

Depending on the age of your GQ, have a think about getting the cav adaptor with a hand primer pump incorporated in the head. Reason is the seals in the factory primer head might be getting a bit old, haven't seen many leak fuel due to low sulphur, but more so the problem is the seals may allow air into the fuel supply if they are a bit fragged/split. The factory primer head is a throw away item, not worth it to reseal it.

When I bought the Mav' it had one of these brilliant little devices on it and they're great. They've got a clear bowl at the base to check for water etc. and the filter elements only cost $5.20 from Qld. Diesel Spares at Burpengary. That's so cheap I change the filter every oil change 5000km's.

cool i wanna replace my hilux one with a clear tyoe bowl do u have the part numbers Troy ??

if you use the adapter on to the nissan lift pump dont use the ryco filters as they jam on and can also bypass the filter media.
i paid 140 bucks for the adapter and shortly after the lift pumped leaked so i bought a complete cav lift pump/filter for 105 bucks. :bad-words:

just check the direction of the hoses as they are opposite way round to the nissan one.

No part numbers for the adaptor, it's just a generic cast aluminium head from the local diesel repair shop with the correct fittings for my fuel hose size. Depending on whats available locally to you, it's no problem to fit the adaptor in the factory position, with a bit of alum angle.

the place i work for (heavy machinary graders etc) had a problem of people using drum fuel when machines where on hire and filling the tanks up with crap we fitted the lucas style filter housings with fleetguard ff167a filters and plumbed them up backwards so the glass fills up first instead of running the water trough the filter before it gets to the water trap. you can pick these housings up cheap as chips from a tractor wreckers also fleetguard sell filter heads to suit spin on filters with built in water traps. check it out at fleetguard.com

The way that the lucas style filters work is the fuel is drawn into the glass bowl, through the filter media, water and crud will filter off (and accumulate in the bowl), filtered fuel then flows into the injector pump supply lines.

yup but are you using the ones with 2 or 4 ports on the housing plus the one on top for injector return line?

Just the two port head - one input from the tank, one output to the injector pump. The bleed line from the injectors goes straight back to the tank through it's own line.
