hey, im looking at an xj currently, and if i was to get it, id like to chuck it on gas, i live on the gold coast, and throughout the times, people have mentioned prices from 1000-3500 for the conversion. is that gas rebate still around? and any idea who on the gold coast does a good one for a jeep and cost? and lastly, do you have to fit the tank inside the car? or can it fit on the underside?
thanks very much guys.

XJ lpg

Gidday sinner,
Coincidentally, I am in the process of buying an XJ which has already been converted. This one has had a cylinder (60 litre usable) slung underneath where the petrol tank originally went. A new (60 litre) petrol tank is fitted in front of the LPG tank.
The disadvantages of this arrangement are:
Reduced petrol capacity
Slightly reduced clearances in rough conditions??
The big advantage is you keep all the space in the back. Some people have said that the reduced petrol capacity is a prblem in remote areas, but my remotest trips are likely to be to Fraser, Moreton Island and DI Point, so getting fuel not a problem.
I believe the rebate is still available - maybe you could Google "LP gas install gold coast" or whatever - any installer could confirm the status of the rebate.

Yep, I think the rebate is still available for $2000. I haven't shopped around much, but I was quoted $3800 for the conversion that wannabee is talking about. It's a particularly expensive way of doing it coz you need a new petrol tank, but it won't compromise your boot space!
Another way to do it is to put a tyre-shaped tank where the spare goes, and put the spare on a rear wheel carrier.
(I just counted 17L / 100km city driving, in the XJ... )
