Clutch changing advice

Gday

I was just wondering what sort of method everyone uses when they change the clutch in a sierra... so far I can see two ways


1. Remove the gearbox
2. Remove the engine...

What do you find the easiest way to change your clutch...

remove the gearbox !!!
way easier than pullin' the engine !!!
you should have the box out in around 45-60 mins !!!

I agree. The gearbox in a zook is a super light weight if you compare it to something like a patrol. I'm only a little takka so I convinced a mate to climb under with me and it was out in about 55min (and I had no idea how to do it at the time).
Use cheap tools... Its better to break the tool than the part!

yeah dropping the hear box is easiest, other hints are, undo the plugs from gear box to looom, they near firewall. if you dont and drop gear box they break. When lining it up , you can do it by feel. as most clutch align tools are too big, for a zook.
Oh and while you got gear box out change the oil. Make sure you have it in neutral we removing stick also when you go to refill, the gear stick is already out so pour oil in that till up to needed level .

dont get any oil on the pressure or clutch plate.

I had no trouble lining the clutch up by eye, but I did it while the engine was out. Engine popped straight back on.

If gear box goes almost right up , but is short by a cm or so of mating with motor, pull box out and check clutch , it could be a mm or so out, causing the hiccup.

Oh lastly make sure you have what you want need before dropping it, as runs to shop 1/2 thru aint pretty covered in grease oil and mud.
