Quick question - can you wet sand with an air sander, one of the jitterbug type? (Any particular technique?) Or should wet sanding be only done by hand?
I am interested in wet sanding my boat, to get a better finish and keep the dust down.

DO NOT wet sand with anything other than a block.
When you use a elec/air sander if you look close enough there are circular patterns left by the sander...that is the last thing you want when you are doing the final sanding before paint application.
As said before...dont be lazy, do it once, do it properly!

I saw pictures of an air sander with a water supply hose:
...but was unsure about using water with an ordinary air sander.
I think I will use the air sander dry to cut back to old paint then wet sand with a block after the first undercoat and before the last final coat.

Yes is can wet sand with an obrital sander provided it's designed for wet sanding or is an air operated orbital sander which all automotive orbitals sanders are these days. You could do it using a squirty bottle full of water.
The other option is dry sanding with an orbital sander with dust extraction. Wet rubbing is a thing of the past these days and the only things panel shops rub wet these days is door openings and finishing off bumperbars.
I'd strongly recommend you use a dust exaction orbital connected to a vacuum it is easier and less messy then wet rubbing anyway.
