Defender questions

Post by TUFFRANGIE »

Thinking about selling my gq swb Patrol and buying a 110, i am worried about diff strength, minimum tyre size would be a 33 that i would run.

Also has anyone put a V8 into one? Does the 4 litre disco motor bolt up?

Anything i should look out for when test driving? Is jacmac or maxi's the only diff strength upgrades available?

Has anyone put gq/gu gear under one?

Are they easy to drive fast through the bush?

I'm sure i will think of more questions

Cheers

depending on the year model you buy, rear diff (pre 2000 i think) is a sals 8ha. same as a D60.

front diff can be converted to a toyota hypoid center.

but maxi drives in a laminated housing are very good.

they were v8 up until 89 i think, some were isuzu diesel.

they do drive well fast on dirt tracks, constant 4wd.

they have a very good transfer case with good aftermarket options

they are very different to nissan,s and toyota's

TD5 have more poke than the 4 litre V8, better in the bush and on road. Just dont sound as nice.
But....
if you Chip a TD5 and 3" exhaust........ Baby.....
Diff strength is debatable, not as strong as nissan, but if you dont drive like a clown then you wont break one.
Ive driven fairly hard in my past 2 defenders and never broke an axle or CV, Luck??? i think its the way i drive.

Defenders are a Fun 4x4 and are full of characture. Test drive one in the bush and your hooked......
