but it is true, trying to increase articulation will always end up with decreasing the drivability on the road, the total articulation of the GQ is quite good as is, sway bar disconects etc will free it up, lockers will get you through, if not you prolly chouldnt be driving it in a full bodies GQ not that it ever stopped me
now to get used to SW

Articulation
I love these "off the cuff" comments. If you want more travel in your GQ, you need to look at several aspects.
1. Are your shocks the right length? - Shock absorbers are quickly overlooked and are always the discerning factor in suspension travel.
2. Do you have sway bars on the vehicle?
3. Which radius arms do you have in the vehicle? - There are several non OE drop radius arms available that will increase, marginally, the amount of travel, compression and droop. These are bolt in units that can be quickly removed if you wish to return the vehicle to standard configuration.
4. Do you want bolt in components or are you happy to permenantly modify your truck?
5. Do you use this truck as a daily driver and wish to retain some form of decent onroad handling characteristics or is it a bush rig?
6. Do you have the budget to purchase/modify your truck to achieve what you desire?
If you need more info, give us a call or email.

yes there i some after market droped radius arms that will marginally increase the traval, but generally speaking GU\GQfront suspension traval is not great and in most cases any mods to greatly improve this will have a detrimental effect on the on road handeling of the vehicle
In most cases the shocks on the front of a GQ are not going to be the limiting factor in the set up
Also in most cased the additional flex will not increase the drivability offroad enough to warrent the cost and asosiated on road issues, most people I have spoken to who have had link set ups on road driven rigws say they would probably not do it i they had there time again
you could also just remove one bolt from the radius arm while on the trails

IMO massive flex is overrated on a bodied rig like yours. It's not lifting wheels in the picture is it (can't see too well)

Looks like the Rear is lifting slightly, but there is still plenty of flex there. Lockers front and rear would probably be a better mod (if not already there)

If there is a wheel lifting i'd be surprised if that's all the compression available in the front. Is it up to the bump stops?lay80n wrote:Looks like the Rear is lifting slightly, but there is still plenty of flex there. Lockers front and rear would probably be a better mod (if not already there)

I had a major flexy gq front. 7" coils, wizard 5 link etc etc. I loved driving camp road etc while I had it. But It shitted me every time I drove the car. Flexy fronts suck, you don't need it either. I dropped the lift down to 4", 3rds arms up front set up like an 80 series, near factory articulation and it goes further. Speed, lockers etc. I have never even thought of changing it back. The majority of guys I know have changed back to less flexy front ends. Articulation is so 5 years ago lol

I had drop boxes in mine, 6" lift thats it, with lockers 35sI kept up, and rarely didnt take on an obsickle a mate with a GQ truggy (5 link front, tri 4 link tube rear with dobbins rancho coilovers with drop outs on beadlocked 37 creepies, crawlers)
for the better part the main thing that got me was approach and departure angles

my mods on brutus
Hay guys Brutus has 5" dobinson springa & shocks with 37" maxxis
I cutt the chassie mounts of the 60 then bolted them to the bod sat it over the GQ chassie with the 308 g box & drive train in place got it level
then filled the space with 3mm plates folded to suit.
it,s not to bad when you have an over head gantry to easily lift the body
then I tubed the rear wheel arch
re worked the front edge of the front arches
cutt 400 mm out of the rear & moved it forward
full internal roll cage
front & rear lockers
twin toyota air filters & snorkels
& still adding more junk as i think brutus needs it.

Re: 5 link
u will get people saying they are shit, and then youll get people like me that are loving their cars with a 5link up front, both on and off road...Brutus wrote:What is a 5 link like on the road. dose it wonder I need more info before I give the front end a make over.
my setup:
6" lift, adjustable shocks, 5link front , and NO swaybars, and it drives smoother than standard...
note, if you checkout my buildup page, you will notice that i can still put the radius arms back in, but I dont need to
if you are someone that will be racing the car around, then an xlink/5link probably isnt for you, cause body roll will be noticeable. dont forget it's a 2ton lifted car, so drive accordingly, if a corner sign says 15km/hr, then just do it at 15km/hr and its all good...

I reckon you should just xlink it, you wont have to make new links, brackets, etc.

Especially when you taking the body off a ladder chassis, and dropping it onto another ladder chassis.
I believe that thing would be registered as a GQ patrol, as as far as queensland is concerned, its the chassis that dictates the vehicles.
