Ok I am looking to convert a 4.5 auto to 4.2 turbo manual. I am looking at a 1HZ turbo and manual box from a 100 series. I think the auto would take to much power out of it but I'm keen on any feedback to the contary (i have an auto box from a diesel under the house, but I think looking at the wiring diagram I could get the eletronic box to from the petrol with the bellhousing and convertor from the diesel auto box at home)
In any case my question is
1. Will a 1 hz bolt up to the same chassis mounts from a 4.5
2. Is it a different dash (I think it is)
3. Fuel lines - 4.5 to 4.2 are they the same.
4. radiators - I am pretty sure they are the same
5 Fuel tanks - do I need to change the pump - why can't it just pump diesel from the sub to the main like it does on the petrol or won't the pump handle it.
6. Starter motor - is an auto diesel starter the same as a manual?
7. Will a 100 series manual box fit in an 80 series? Will the 80 full time t/c fit onto it?
Thats all for now - I think. Any help is most appreciated.
Either that or I'll throw a long range tank in it a go f@#k it and keep it the way it is. It goes great except for the economy, especially off road.

petrol to diesel conversion

mate im looking at doing the same thing. so far ive been old I can exchange my petrol motor and gearbox for a low km(under 140000km) 1hz for $3800. plus radiator as outlets on opposite sides,a/c, starter, alternator, dash etc. say $5500 - 6000
tanks remain the same. unsure about fuel lines.
theres a bit of info about but its all very disjointed and hard to sort the crap from the truth. Add in items that you have to reco or parts you didnt realise you needed not to mention a good exhaust system and its near on $10k by the time its running.
another option is to buy a complete runner, strip it for what you need and part the rest and theres a good chance you'd break even but space is a prob for me.
It is tempting to just forget it and get my existing gearbox, clutch and transfer case overhauled, fit an x-link new shocks and go find some big rocks.

2 different combo meter, different wiring to and from, glow system not there on petrol, all wiring in bay ass about
3 petrol has pump in tank, diesel has solenoids to switch between tanks, lines are pressure on petrol, suction on diesel
4 same same side hoses too
5 yeah you can do that if you like main tank needs diesel top to replace fuel pump in tank unless you want to pump diesel to the moor aswell

7no and no, the 100 series manual is a prado box, much weaker than 80, transfer wont interchange either, good part is a 1hz diesel 80 box will bolt straight up. If your 80 is auto now, the crossmember and tailshafts are different to manual ones
With the cross member being in a different position from manual to auto ,there isnt much in it ,75mm from memory.
AllI've ever done when doing a conversion is weld a bracket to crossmember to accept mount,that leaves crossmember in factory position and Mr Engineer likes that.

Yep I measured 75mm and have made a custom member for it, but if you have any pics I would appreciate it. I am looking at a 1hz turbo this afternoon with 120,000 on the clock with box for $5400. I can sell the box and recup some money. I have got a dash, radiator and a few other bits already.
