has any body put a crane xr700 elec dizzy on there tb42 to replace the points its great but it seems to have a flat spot on take off if ideling for a while we did to 2 patrols at the same time and both have the same problem any ideas??

really why other than as stated it goes heaps better revs and power heaps better smoother

pertronix is the proven solution.

I put it in mine and raced my mates right next to me.

Identical cars and mine one by a car length.

There should be a thread a few pages back.

X2 my Petronix is now getting beating with a turbo as well and holding up very well..

The Petronix does not have an external box like what the Crane items have.
The Petronix is a magnetic pick up conversion kit that fits inside the distributor (about the size of a match box) and is purely for sending ignition signal only. Its not a capacitive discharge ignition design.

but what makes the crane version bad other than the external unit its water proof and sends the signal peronix sounds more compact but is that it

The Crane items are more potent no doubt.
Ive seen the Crane product and it looks very well made.
But some say these conversion kits are not very reliable. I dont know exactly why or what makes them fail.
Dont expect mere proof to sway my opinion.

when we first installed it i thought it was way to flimsy but once it was im it was very stable.
I brought the upgrade 60,000 volt coil to go on it, instead of the 20,000 volt thats on there now. and will put it in some time this week with a bigger gapped spark plugs 1.1 instead of the .8 standed see if this helps with the flat spot

I would say that your spark plugs are the cause to your flat spot, re - gap them to 1 or 1.1 and see how it goes.
