whats better one piece or 2 piece tailshaft for hilux
hey guys.
my standard tail shaft is stuffed i will need a new center bearing + a few uni's
so i will be up for a full rebuild.
so i was thinking of maybe going to a one piece tail shaft
what are pros and cons / do you think i should stick with the 2 piece or go to a one piece.
its a ln106 hilux with a 2 inch lift later on down the track(6 to 12 months) i will be going a 3.5 buts thats the highest i will be going.

if running any lift at all a 1 peice is the way to go if you keep the 2 peice in there you will be replacing centre bearings every 6 months the hiluxs dont run a 2 peice because of length its to correct driveline angle same as commodore but once you lift them its all out anyway some hiluxs we fit a 1 peice shaft in drive perfect straight up some need pinion angle adjustment just depends on the amount of lift, spring set, etc.

Front shaft if you don't drive it on road alot make one out of RHS box steel still using double carden and all uni's works a treat for the rear shaft if you have any lift at all all mates who have had a centre bearing go i've fitted a 1 peice shaft no point trying to avoid what you'll end up doing

i have one to. measure the distance from transfer output to the diff flange for me and i'll measure the one piece i have here i only removed it cause i need to run a double cardinal on the rear of mine now

RHS section drive shafts are only good for a cheap option for comps, they are a PITA to balance (no one bothers any way as they are all for slow work) and make a crap load of noise. If its for the front end of a comp car, then RHS is probably okay, but for a street rig, so a proper tube section.

AU falcons used to be speed limited to 180kph because of their one piece shaft- they start to whip around and vibrate as they flex at speed.
But i suspect an LN106 will ever have that problem!
