Piranha Isolator Fault

Post by me3@neuralfibre.com »

My Piranha 150A isolator is looking pretty dodgy. Case warped and cracked. It is still kinda working however.

Does anyone have any inside contacts that can help me with it?

Only 2 of the 4 relays in parallel are actuating. When I rang piranha they indicated this was not normal operation.

Any dealers or mates know the internals of these.

Whislt on the topic, looks like their speil is bullshit, it's just a voltage controlled relay (4 small cheapies in parallel) that join the 2 batts together, same as Redarc. I ahve yet to find a genuine charge isolator system.

Thanx

Paul,
Have a look at http://www.traxide.com.au/

The sc40 and sc80 are what I use for clients dual battery setups, sometimes with solenoids for parallel battery powered winching etc.
You can buy direct from them, or PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Found the problem - turned out to be corroded track on board.

FYI - Piranha just use 4 relays in parallel and some circuitry to trigger it. Basically it's a voltage sensing relay with some minor surge protection.

Hi me3, you will find that 95% of dual battery controllers work along the same principals, it’s just that some charge you an arm and a leg for the privilege of having their name on your controller.

Cheers.

Exactly my thoughts, the big name 4by shops charge a unbelievable amount of money for black boxes filled with Fred Flintstone style solenoids because noone knows any difference.Duel battery systems are basic stuff and people are getting burned big time .
Trust me I am not a sparky but it's basic enough to do yourself.I did.
