Radiator shroud or not?

Post by 80.Cruiser »

HI,

Im having dramas getting the radiator into position ( 80 series )
The radiator will fit...but not with the shroud in place.
have tried all sorts of positions....no luck.
question is...would it be ok without the shroud?
I think it would.... just thought i would get a second opinion.
Thanks in advance.
Tony.
Im off for the weekend.fishing...first break for over 12 months and the radiator springs a leak

The shroud helps alot with cooling.

Would be ok I reackon though without, until you hit the sand or alot of big hills on a hot day.

Thanks......im off to fit the radiator hope it wont take too long !

Thaught it may make a slight difference.
The distance from the fan to the radiator isn't far...maybe slightly less draw and perhaps cooling of the fins uneven?.....im hanging out to get away.......will be ok fer sure  :D

cause like most, id say he needs to sit the shroud on the fan and then ut the radiator in and then bolt the shroud to the rad.

i don't have one in my 2h and generally speaking it doesn't overheat.
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.

I meant how did 80.Cruiser get it out in the first place ,if he got it out he should be able to figure out how to get it back in!
I know how to do it "I gotta it's my job."

I left mine off once and it got hot on slow steep climbs when the air flow was relient on the fan.
without the shroud the fan has a tendency to circulate the air not just draw it through the radiator.
Put it on.

cheers dan

i have had heating troubles with my 80 series for the last year and a half till a put a shroud in the vechile. Any one that takes out a shroud has to be crazy.

P.S. even the 16 inch thermo the previous owner installed to fix the problem didn't help.

The shroud on our old 1hdt fell to bits, thought we'de wait 3000ks til the next service to get it fixed. It refused to work hard without getting hot so it went in 1000k later to get a new shroud, Temp gauge never moved after that.

Obviously its there for a reason, so ide put it back on!

Back from break

Problem i had was when i pulled the shroud off ( positioned shroud over fan )....whilst i was extracting the radiator it caught the top edge of shroud and the shroud broke into 3 pieces.
As a short term fix i plated and screwed it back together, whilst trying to reinstall the radiator the shroud was getting in the way...had about 2mm on bottom drivers side that was a problem. really tight fit.....but anyway....had dramas....waisted lots of time trying to fit properly....and access to hoses was difficult to say the least :bad-words: ( mental note : extract and destroy all spring type clamps ! )
.. extremely frustrated as time off from work is as rare as, i was lucky to get a week off as it was..... my next time off is around 18 months away
Anyway.....vehicle did'nt overheat...temp was where it always was....and i will get another shroud and replace it when time permits. :)
Thanks one and all for your reply's :)
